    Default Buddhist Book Exchange

I have gotten requests from posters who like some ideas of reading materials on Buddhism. If mods want to do make this for all religions go right ahead if we like. If others want to share. Share them.

    Books that I read:
Becoming Enlightened by His Holiness the Dalai Lama

The book is a self help book built on the foundations of Buddhism. He gives the basics of Buddhism too the reader and shows us some Buddhist practices on how to improve our lives. He tells us that all other religions are valid and acceptable baths too achieve ending suffering and charity. He suggests that people of other religions can use practices of Buddhism to help as a guide. HH the Dalai Lama gives you a step process on Buddhist path.

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Understanding Buddhism by Gary Gach

Even though I am only half way reading this. This is a very easy book to help you learn the aspects of Buddhism. It contains almost every thing you need to know about Buddhism and a great start if you want to get the basics down. He gives you the life of the Buddha from birth, prince, enlightenment, and too death. Details on all the major schools of Buddhism. A great explanation of mediation and even visual examples to help you if you need it. The author enplanes Buddhism influence on art, people and science. I would recommend this book first before reading others.

Books I own and on my reading list:

How to Practice by His Holiness the Dalai Lama
Book is simple enough. HH the Dalai Lama step by step book on practicing Buddhism. Like his "Becoming Enlightened" but a bit more detailed.

Living Buddha, Living Christ by Thich Nhat Hanh
A great book for Buddhists who want to learn life of Jesus Christ and for Christians who want to know more about the Buddha. The author compares these two wise peoples and how they taught how to end suffering, charity, and morality.

The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying by Sogyal Rinpoche

The book is a translation of the Tibetan Book of the Dead. Gives insight on Tibetan Buddhism and how to deal and prepare for death.

The Meditation Handbook by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

Another guidebook on Meditation from the New Kadampa Tradition School of Buddhism. This school is popular in the Western World.

The Universe in a Single Atom by His Holiness the Dalai Lama

HH the Dalai Lama shows us how Science and Religion can work together. Also warns us that science needs to have morality. Science can create good and evil. He compares how Buddhism and Science does not fight each other unlike other religions.
