Any rock/metal song suggestions I could learn on it?

Learn some scales. Seriously, I've been playing for around 3 years now and I neglected theory for so long. Scales help me improvise solo's now, so I can impress people with speedy solo's that actually sound decent.

Yeah learn your scales. And try not to get hooked on power chords. They are fun but not a testimony to skill. Not to mention pulling off a solo is alot more fun.

Yeah I was so frustrated with solo's, I just couldn't pull them off. Then I started learning scales and focusing on solo's. I haven't learnt a song for a while because I just enjoy improvising and now my soloing (sp?) is much better.

LOL I know what you mean. But start off with the simple ones. Even if it means you have to play the music you hate. For example, I started off playing redneck hick ass ACDC for about a year mixed with some blues and southern rock. My God I hated it. But after a while of doing that and listening to metal, I could start playing fast riffs and solos just by ear because metal is based on blues and imbred redneck 80's rock. Soon enough I was ripping out riffs from Cannibal Corpse and Infestdead.

Yeah my friends Dad teachers me guitar and he always teachers me blues. It's probably because of him that I can play all the insanely fast stuff. By the way, the cannibal corpse album cover with two skeletons engaging in felatio is pretty damn awesome.

Also Fred, don't just learn a bunch of cool sounding riffs to try prove you're good. I know people that just learnt a ton of easy Metallica riffs that sound good, and they think they are the . I asked one guy to improvise and he couldn't do anything and made some excuse to not play.

Yeah spinning a song off into something else is always fun.

And yeah, good old CC. Wild drums, ultra fast riffs, hostile demonic vocals and brutal destructive lyrics. They just don't make metal like the use to. The past decade the latest trend is sing like a pussy and then scream like a pussy. And now we have a generation of so-called metal based whining and estregen filled emotions. These days they blubber and cry over a girl. In the old days they just disposed her mutilated remains in a ceptic tank. I blame linkon park and slip knot for ruining rock.

I have been thinking of trying to learn Asylum by Disturbed first, they're my favorite Nu-Metal band.

I think you are getting obsessed with Disturbed. But go ahead buy a guitar and spend your time doing something constructive.

If I had to I would learn "Ride the Lightning" by Metallica, probably not with the solo just yet.

A lot of Sabbath songs are easy (Iron Man, War Pigs, Paranoid, etc) that would be good for you to learn.
