Default will medieval 2 total war work with amd athlon ii x4 630 quad-core processor

Ok so I recently got a new graphics chip and was hopping I could play Medieval 2 toal war with full graphics no problem. But on the bigger battles, it starts to really lag (Frame rate goes down). I think it might be the processor but im not sure. Please help.

    System Specs:

HP Pavilion p6310 PC with Windows 7 64 Bit

    amd athlon ii x4 630 quad-core processor

    NVIDIA GeForce GT 240

    6GB DDR3 system memory

    1 terabyte hard drive

If any one can give me suggestions of how to fix the proble that would be very much apreciated.
    Thank You.

Medieval 2 is old enough that it doesn't support multiple cores. It relies solely on the CPU clock speed and cache. @2.8 Ghtz you should be fine with that system but you may experience some lag with huge units sizes and all the eye candy turned on.

What OS are you running? Win7 32-bit or 64-bit?

EDIT: Try turning off anti-aliasing and see if that has an effect on the FPS.

The problem is because the Nvidia GT 240 is not powerful enough. You need a better card than that.

At this time, the only cards that are of any value from Nvidia are the GTX 460 and any 5XX series cards. AMD's offerings on the budget side are much more balanced. But in the case of maximising M2TW's graphic options, you will still need to start from either the old HD 4800 series (not recommended) or HD 5700 and above.

If you do not wish to replace your card, try reducing the anti-aliasing as much as possible first. It requires the most processing power and is the least noticeable, especially when you're engrossed in the action.

Well, the OP already stated that this was a new card. He may not be willing to jump out and buy a top-of-the-line card just for this game. Add to that the GTX 240 is way better than the recommended card at the time then he should get by just fine with it - they were recommending a 7300 at the time.

    It's still a lowend card for 3d gaming. Try your montitor resolution at 1024 x 768 or 1280 x 1024.

GTx 250 is a clock up of my 9800GT 512mb vram with the same gpu. I can play some hellatious battles but it's at 1280 x 1024 on a 19" monitor without slowing down. Your card is two steps down so it will have trouble staying with my old one.
