Hi guys,
I've a question for you:
How do I recreate a realistic Macedonian army in-game?
What kind of units are to be used for this time period (from Philip V onwards)?

Thanks for the replies, but why should I not use the Companions?
I use for example this army for my Basileus:
1/2 Amphipolitan Ph.
2/3 Bottia Ph.
1 Agema Ph
1 Hypaspistai
1 Royal peltasts
1 Rhomphaphoroi
1 Machairophoroi
1 Machairophoroi Ep.
1 Companion
1 Paenonian/Thraikan noble cavalry
1 Thessalian
2 missile
5 other units
Mind that this is my army in the mid/late game and I can afford it easily.
What kind of tactics do you use? Do some of your units have special tasks?
Historically yes the Companions began to disappear...but, you dont want to follow history too much, otherwise your macedonian kingdom will be a roman province pretty soon
Id say at the most use ONE and ONLY ONE unit of companions, but only if your general has a small number. just make sure you have some heavy cav.
my Seleucid armies usually consist (for successor fighting)
1 General (Cataphracts)
1 Hypaspistai
2 Agryaspides
3 Pezhetaiori/katoikoi phalangites
1 Xysto's
1 Cata Elephants
1 Hetaiori
1-2 Agryaspid Thorakitai
1-2 Thorakitai units (arab, generic, whatever)
2-3 archer units
1 slinger
1 akontastai
various other swordsmen complements to fill it out, merc or recruited
Basically, i keep my Raphia starting army's composition for the most part, highly effective. As Macedon i know you cant follow this to the letter, but you seem to have it pretty nailed down. Phalanxes form the middle, heavy cav to support, and lighter, faster infantry to cover the phalanx. I think the key usually is to have an elite cavalry, heavy cav, and lighter cav (i use Elephants usually in place of companions).
So when you face the romans...unlease the hell of your cavalry...they usually cant counter it very well
