    Default Early symbol of Norway

    Hi folks!

    I need help!

When you are ready with certain missions, you are able to unite Vestfold and Hordaland.
You are the higher Yarl, king of the newly born faction, "Norway"

My problems: What is the symbol we use if your country is converted into Norway?
This event can happen any time after 865, so don't think of real history. (eg. in 869 or 1054)

These are the Hordland's and Vestfold's faction symbols:

Shall we use this "modern" symbol, or the simple viking raven? Or…?

Raven! For 100% use the Raven!!!

I agree, probably use the raven just to keep things traditional. But then they'd need to be a way to tell it apart from Vestfold and denmark, as you said

... but vestfold an denmark uses the raven also (and similar the hordaland)
... and the lion wasn't to late symbol.
Magnus Barefoot (1093-1103) was the first Norwegian king to use an heraldic lion in his standard.

Well they are both different, so its not a real problem.

Or... how about Thors hammer? I know its not exactly accurate, but its also the best choice for a general viking battle standard.

The lion as no matter when the kingdom is united it won't be historically accurate.

Only one kalmar script can run at any time. So it would be one or the other.

I am not opposed to the Lion standard, even if it does not fit in the timeframe, or a raven standard.

I remember the color scheme of the original MTW:VI was a black raven on a white background.

    That looked nice.

I saw that some of the army banners already had Thor's Hammers on them so that may be overkill.

i would say raven, but using perhap distints raven designs for each faction to not look the same

Well, for differences' sake... You could use a knotwork dragon or something, since the dragon was such a big part of Norse Culture (dragon longships=drakkars, the old norse name for dragon)
    Here's some pictures for examples.

But then again... I'm also a fan of the raven banners. Plus it's more historical. You can never have too many raven banners
I'm also somewhat against the use of the lion banner. Cuz not only was that used outside of the timeframe, but it was also used after Christianization.

Yeah, I know how that is. So I think you could use any knotwork just search up on google "norse knotwork" and you should find some. I used the Yggdrasil knotwork symbol for my Norðvegr faction symbol. Here's a pic

Danova, think about this... you cannot put there a lion, which became the symbol AFTER Norway was Christianized... That would be a desecration of all that is "vikingish" and pagan!
Its hard to find the right symbol, but if not the raven, then it should be Yggdrassil. We just CANNOT put there anyhting associated with christianity!
