Default New models and anims ?

    Hi there,

is it possible to extract all the data from the packs, import it in say 3dsmax or blender, edit geometry and anims and then repack it and having it working ingame ?

I haven't found anything in the forums (except new uniforms etc)

If it's not allowed, what is the problem ? extracting and/or repackin ?

    Hey,

you need the Program Ultimate Unwrap 3D for opening the empire model files. There is also a free converter by knight errant but this one is rather buggy, especially the converter to max. Sadly UU3D is also not capable to save all empire files, but the most importants are supported.

Thx for the answer. Which files are not supported please ?
Also the free converter does the work or if you want an efficient tool do you have to buy that UU3D ? I hope not.

You have to buy it, if you want to save a model.

Actual the plugin supports following formats for saving:

Variant Weighted Mesh Type 1 = unit files
Variant Weighted Mesh Type 5 = equipment files

Rigid Model Type 4 = projectile files
Rigid Model Type 5 = Deployable Items

    Rigid Mesh Type 1/4
    Animatable Rigid Model Type 4
    Rigid Model Animation Type 4

The question was is it worth buying it instead of using the NightErrant free converter.

Also which percentage of the game files does it represent ? Any major things (like ships, mounts, engines etc) that we can't mod because of the plugin limitations ?

Depends on what you want to do... if you only want to swap/create few parts of one model to another and you are working with milkshape then Knight Errants Converter is enough for you.

If you want to create new buildings, change the look of the campaign map ones, add new artillery models and you are working with other 3D Packages then you need Ultimate Unwrap.

A list what can be editied:

    - Unitmodels
    - Unitmodel animations
    - Unit Equipment
    - Depolyable Items
    - Projectiles
    - Campaign map Buildings
    - Battlemap Buildings (but not their collision mesh)
    - Destroy Animations for Artillery and Buildings
    - Artillery Models

    And what can't be editited:

    - Ship models
    - Building collision models
    - windows models
    - Unitmodels for Napoleon
    - Equipment model for Napoleon

hmm ok so to make things clear, atm if you edit a building you'll have to make it the same size as the original or there'll be some weird stuff like invisible walls and walls you can pass through right ?

What is exactly the problem with ships ? I've seen a screen in the UU3D topic of someone editing a ship...is it a problem of getting what you edited back in game or is it the ship file binary not being cracked at all ?

Except these models, everything is editable ? So you can change vegetation, walls, create new cities and bastions ? What about units, cities, building models and vegetation on the campaign map and the campaign map itself ?
To summarize what are the things that cannot be edited (if you want to make an overhaul mod like the one in your sig) ?

Exactly, you can change the look of the building but not how the engine handles it, atm.
The same goes for Forts (you were talking about bastions), where you can't change were the cannons and soldiers are placed.

What is exactly the problem with ships ? I've seen a screen in the UU3D topic of someone editing a ship...is it a problem of getting what you edited back in game or is it the ship file binary not being cracked at all ?
The Problem with ships is that you can't export the file format (rigid_naval_model) at the moment. Also the DB table for the ships isn't cracked (where cannons and soldiers are placed).
The file format itself wouldn't be much of a problem, but the developer of UU3D has also other things to do

To summarize what are the things that cannot be edited
I can't edit trees (unless i pay 10.000 $ for Speedtree, where it also seams that the actual version can't open spt files anymore) i can't add new ship models, new garrisionable buildings, new forts or any other fortification, also campaign trees are using a different file format, as far as i remember. The campaign map itself has nothing to do with 3D, though its using some 3D elements like splines and few meshes for the coast.

I can edit the look of the buildings on the campaign map, also the units and animations they are using.

    create new cities
What do you mean? New Cities (= different layout) or new cities with buildings of a different culture?

First one should be possible, since we now also have acess on the farm_template_files, last one too as long as the buildings are of the same shape as the "originals"

Is there a tutorial about adding a building in ETW ?

For example, I have create a Palazzo del Quirinale model I want to use as top level government building for Papals States.
What files and db table must I modded ?
