Time Commanders, wich uses ''state of the art technology'' to replicate ancient battles.

Yes, I know about Time Commanders , but it's more a show than an documentary . Nice movie Achea , but you should really see the episode regarding Hannibal from Ancient behaving badly - in order to be declared a great commander ( Scipio ), you have to portray the looser ( Hannibal ) a great commander .
The "real deal" commanders were Alexander , Caesar , Marius, Gnaeus Julius Agricola, Trajan , and many more that don't come to my mind right now .
...Scipio Africanus was a general in the Second Punic War and statesman of the Roman Republic. He was best known for defeating Hannibal at the final battle of the Second Punic War at Zama, a feat that earned him the agnomen Africanus, the nickname "the Roman Hannibal", as well as recognition as one of the finest commanders in military history. An earlier great display of his tactical abilities had come already at the Battle of Ilipa....

I would say Hannibal is most certainly a "real deal" commander. Charismatic, intelligent and prudent with the deployment and use of his heterogeneus army makes him on par with any of the generals you just listed.

At any rate, here is an interesting documentery done by the history channel regarding the Athenian Golden Age. The next four parts are in the "related videos" column.

Thanks for the info . Regarding Hannibal , people have their preferences and opinions , and I'll always respect that , for me he was a medium-commander , he used some great tactics in some of his battles ( the Battle of Cannae was also used for inspiration in the Gulf War if I'm not wrong ) , but still , he stayed 15 years in Italy and wasn't able to give the Romans a fatal blow , he lost half of his army when he crossed the Alps . It's like I'll say that Decebal was a great leader ( I'm from Romania ) , when he wasn't . Enough for Han+ or Han - , thank you for the info once again , I'll update the first post in the morning , time to have some sleep now .

I liked Ancients Behaving Badly, until they did Hannibal, after which I never watched the show again, partly because I realized who was grading. The psychologist said Hannibal was an average commander, and was slightly lower than that because of his obsession with elephants, and became a 'great' commander because of the Scipios influence.

    Bah.

I was once an Angel of Total War Heaven, but gave up my wings for a life on the sea of battle.

The Cities of the Underworld released two episodes on the topic of Rome (Rise of Rome and the Hidden Empire) but links to ful episodes do not seem to exist.

Ancient Discoveries (http://www.history.com/shows/ancient-discoveries) is quite the interesting series that chronicles the construction of various archaic buildings and the technologies that the ancients used to construct them.

Shouldn't be too much of a stretch when a guy with the word PUNIC is in his name
I agree, however, the interpretation of Hannibal on Ancients Behaving Badly was seemingly biased and turned me off the show.

I have all of the episodes of History Channel's Rise and Fall uploaded. I have not yet properly labeled them all. At the moment eps 1-8 are unlocked.

I also remember there was a program years ago on British tv "Time Commanders" which consisted of a team of people using a rome total war engine to replay battles
