Default TW Rome for a MTW2 lover?

    Hey there forum! First post.

I've recently been introduced to the TTW series. I think that medieval 2 is extremely entertaining, especially with SS. Though, I'm honestly no fan of empire(Gun fights all the time? :S - boring). I've heard a lot of good things about Rome TTW, though the game might be a bit old.
Is it worth the ten bucks and the time or doesn't it bring anything that medieval 2 can't offer?

Hi Nimb1991 and welcome to TWC enjoy your stay!
Concerning Rome: Total War, well those might most probably be the best spent 10 bucks you ever happen to spent
Just take a look at the RTW modifications section of TWC and have a first glance on all those splendid mods for RTW!

Rome: Total War is a great game, especially it's era. Though the graphics are outdated and the vanilla gameplay sucks, mods like Roma Surrectum, Europa Barbarorum and Lord of the Rings: Total war add years to the lifespan of R: TW.

I'd like to suggest: buy it!

Well the ttw series is after all about the gameplay first and then graphics! These mods, you mention, are they in a quality of Stainless Steel? Because if they were, that sure wouldn't be a bad sign! Best mod I've ever played.
Oh and does it work out well with the lesser ammount of factions(compared to m2tw)?

The mods are pretty good. Almost as good as SS. Same quality. The roma surrectum mods are good and feature the evolution of the roman legions and has individual legions that have variations in armour and decorations on shields.

If you want to see pikemen as a dominant form of infantry aswell then try rome

You can wait 1 month and get this mod - http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=620
Its an complete overhaul, a total conversion from MTW2 into classical age like RTW.
With this you have the newer engine from MTW2 and the setting in the style from RTW.

Or you buy the Total War Anthology for about 20€/27$ and get it all

RTW is definately worth 10 bucks. The campaign is less interesting than the MTW2 ones, but the MP is amazingly fun if you can get good opponents, and if you are one of those people that prefers graphics over gameplay then i suppose the RS2 mod will solve that.

Oh yeah you should definitely get it and don't forget to use Roma Surrectum II!

You should first play a vanilla campaign - as Julii , Brutii or Scipii , then move to mods and then try some MP battles .

Welcome! After you've bought the game, be sure to install ROMA SURRECTUM II. It is one of the most refined mods I've seen for any game. Also, keep an eye out for Europa Barbarorum II.
