    Default ATI to announce X1900

So how does 48 pixel pipes and a 700Mhz gpu sound? Now double that running in the revamped crossfire mode...hmmm we shall see...
By comparison, a 7800GTX only has 24 pipes and 430Mhz. BUT, this is to be the answer to Nvidias 7800 successor(8000? or 8800?).

This is getting retarded. What is the point of releasing the next generation of video cards every 6 months. Games can't keep up, and I am fairly certain consumers can't either.

The 7800 GTX 512 MB edition is still the best card out their, now. Once again, ATI comes swinging again. Course, Nvidia will just develope a better one, and it continues. I'm sticking with my 256 7800 GTX, no need for over-kill, unless your very rich.

I agree. But what are they to do otherwise? They ARE a graphics company.

But, yes, this is to be the next contender in the ongoing "card wars". Yes it seems a bit dumb to release such huge cards so close to each other. BUT, if you think about it, releasing their new cards early will drop the price point of current cards and make it easier for someone(like me) to drop the cash on a new PCIe rig. I would have a PCIe rig by now, but I held off for ATI's next AGP card. I bought a car instead, then a month later, they killed all their plans for future AGP cards.
Since theres no more AGP, they need to saturate the market with good PCIe cards to facilitate upgrades for those who aren't early adopters. And since nearly everyone who hasn't bought a PC in the last year still has AGP, it's not too easy to go buy a new PCIe rig if you've got a "high end" AGP card. Why would I want a PCIe 6600 when an AGP 6800 would smoke it? The PCIe upgrade just doesn't make sense in that situation.

So in essence, I believe they're trying to make it more feasible to upgrade sooner instead of later by making the current top dog cards cheaper and the lesser cards(6600's) even cheaper still.

    ...but that's just my opinion...

    Woow...

    How much will it cost?!

I'm sticking though to nVidia, they're my personal graphics company.

ATI will announce - but not necessarily ship - its 90nm R580 graphics chip next month as the Radeon X1900.
This is ATi talk for: Nobody can buy this card for many months because we can't actually produce it yet.
How many seasons passed between the announcement of the X1800, and the actual shipment?

Anyways: Progress in graphics is always good, but I'm far more interested in the mid-range cards.
