I don't mean to provoke further discussion about it in the mod, but he does have a point about the kneeling. Dispite what the paintings, books and other media would have you believe, the soldiers of the civil war were not foolish enough to stand upright under a hail of fire. In letters to friends soldiers would talk about how they 'gallantly' stood up to the enemy, but in letters to wives and family they often talked about how they would all take cover until it was time to move or shoot.

Again, not an issue for the mod, but a point of more realistic historical accuracy.

If I had any issue with the cavalry it would be the shooting while mounted, I know they could do it, but I feel it would be a poor tactic for real cav troopers. I understand that they were more like mounted infantry, moving quickly to the field and then dismounting to fight. Unless they were running down troops with their sabers.

    1. Neither CSA or USA cavalry units used handguns as a matter of course. As said above, they were armed with carbine rifles and sabres. In some theatres they were also issued with handguns, but these were a "back-up" weapon only, and would only be useful at close range. Why use your pistol with an effective accuracy of 25m max when you can use a carbine with an effective range of 200m+ ?

    2. The only CSA cavalry unit to prefer the use of handguns was the 43rd Virginia Cavalry battalion - commonly known as Mosbyīs Rangers. They would arm themselves with up to four pistols. But these were not a conventional cavalry unit. They were Partisan Rangers who specialised in close quarter commando type raids behind enemy lines. The handgun suited their tactics better.

    3. NTW is completely different to ETW. NTW can be modded to include revolvers - ETW (this Mod) cannot. Therefore, no revolvers.

    4. We all like to see historically accuracy etc in mods. usually thatīs why the mod is being developed in the first place. But there are always limitations and inacuracies. Modders will do as much as they can in this field. They want it historical, we all want it historical. But everyone knows, and accepts, that 100% accuracy is unatainable and compromise is necessary. Why not use your imagination a bit? After all, this is a game, not a Civil War re-enactors convention.

    5. I feel itīs a bit rude to demand anything from a modding team. They do this work in their own time, unpaid, and are open to all sorts of petty criticisms by us folk on the forums. Some mods are excellent, but these have usually been developing over years. Some mods are hopeless, but have been made in good faith and have required a great deal of time and effort to produce. This mod, still under development, is young. However, the team are also striving for perfection and increased accuracy daily. 2.0 quickly followed by 2.1, 2.5 in the offing, 3.0 being developed as we speak. Thatīs not bad going for a relatively small modding team. So, if you want this, or any other game to be accurate to the point of boredom, may I suggest developing your own mod or finding another that is more to your liking.

ps yes, Gods and Generals is a great game. really accurate. And they have revolvers in that one. Why not ask for it at your local pc game shop?

You are right. Such things can be done better as submod then as in the mainmod.
When 2.5 is released we will make a place for submods here in our forum.

What do you mean with that?
The Stonewall brigade is the same in 2.0, the same in 2.1 and is not touched in 2.5?
What do you mean with realist unit?

Light Inf behaviour made crashes, so we deleted it. You troops need to much time to deploy the ranks etc..
There will be some special skirmish units in 3.0, which can be placed infront of your troops.

So you have a line infantry with a 160yard enfield and you can place a skirmish unit with a shorter range, but better accuracte rifle in front of your infantry. But these skirmishers marches in light inf bahaviour and they kneel while fireing.

    It will look like this:

    X X X X X X (25 skirmishers)

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (200 line inf)
    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

...any plans, at some point in the future, to base the ACW Negro Colored/54th units on the better African Slaver/Tribal Model in Empire rather than have the coloured over .dds files?...
...they would look fantastic based on the Negroid features from this model...
...(I have tried myself to improvise cut/paste the .dds from the 3 face .dds onto the your 4 face .dds but unfortunately, it is an exact science trying to transpose...and the faces still come out “pinched” because they are not over a negro model)...pic
...just thought I’d put this one “out there” for the Team to ponder...
