    Icon4 How to change the cannon/mortar projectile effectiveness in land battle

    I. Introduction.

    I would like to write a tutorial, about how to change the artillery projectile effectiveness in Empire: Total War land battles.

    This tutorial could be useful for modding purposes (gameplay mods, overhauls, etc).

    Some of the artillery ammo are almost ineffective against infantry lines (unrealistic), but it is possible to fix that.

    =============================================================================================================================

    II. Types of artillery projectiles in Empire: Total War land battles (Early and Late period):

    1) Cannons:

    Round shot ---> iron ball which kills the target with the impact power only, with long range (quite accurate), early Grand Campaign period.

    Cannister shot ---> a sort of "shotgun ammo", extremely useful against infantry ranks from small distance, early Grand Campaign period.

    Shrapnel ---> a type of canister, but this projectile explodes above the target and kills the soldiers with default 45 musket bullets within the range of 100 m (!!); very deadly ammo type with long range; available in later ETW Grand Campaign period.

    2) Mortars:

    Round shot ---> the same ammo as for the cannon, but deliver greater damage, this projectile is slower than normal round shot from cannon; long range, early Grand Campaign period.

    Carcass shot ---> incendiary shot, which explodes above or in the front of the target - with a devastating area of effect, long range, quite big damage, early Grand Campaign period.

    Explosive shell ---> this is a normal round shot, which explodes above the target in the big very deadly fragments; long range, early Grand Campaign period.

    Quicklime ---> upgraded version of carcass shot, long range, available in later ETW Grand Campaign period.

    Percussion shell ---> upgraded version of explosive shell, long range, available in later ETW Grand Campaign period.

    =============================================================================================================================

    III. How to increase the effectiveness of cannon and mortar projectile:

    1) Increasing the damage of the projectile, inside projectiles_tables in patch.pack.

    2) Increasing the projectile velocity, inside projectiles_tables in patch.pack.

    3) Increasing the overall cannon / mortar accuracy, inside kv_rules in patch.pack.

    4) Increasing the number of fragments from exploding ammo, inside projectiles_explosives_tables in patch.pack.

    5) Increasing the number of guns in battery, inside units_stats_land_tables in patch.pack.

    6) Increasing the range of cannon / mortar, inside projectiles_tables in patch.pack.

    =============================================================================================================================

    IV. Examples of modified cannon and mortar projectiles statistics:

    Round shot ---> 2 x damage, longer range, higher accuracy over distance, higher velocity.

    Explosive shell ---> more damage from shell_fragment, longer range,

    higher velocity of shell_fragment, more shell fragments from one exploding round shot, higher accuracy over distance.

    =============================================================================================================================

    V. Summary.

    Any feedback will be appreciated!

    I gathered all the informations, that i know about the cannon and mortar projectile effectiveness and description.

    Most of the column names in projectile_explosives db table are unknown, but i made some tests to prove my "impressions".

    Thanks for your reply Reptile!

    As you could see --> lots of people on TWCenter haven't got any clue, about how to change certain units stats in ETW.

    You could vote in my poll, if you wish so.

    If you have any additional question regarding my tutorial (i.e further modding problems, etc), feel free to ask!

    Thanks for your reply vadik15 - i really appreciate that!

    If you have any additional questions regarding my tutorial (further modding, historical research, etc), feel free to ask!

    You could try to vote in my poll if you like (sometimes it is impossible, i don't know why).

    Does "damage" do anything useful against land units, or it is just against buildings?
    Do we have as good understanding of battle statistics as for RTW/M2TW?

    When you increase the damage value i.e for round shot, one iron ball projectile would kill more soldiers than before (i made 2 x damage for example).

    Increasing the velocity of projectile --> makes it more effective (especially shrapnel shot).

    Increasing the range of projectile --> makes it more effective (especially explosive shell).

    I didn't test the building damage (forts, houses, etc), but i think that the default damage for buildings is unrealistic (too many shots to destroy weak targets - small house, etc).

    Look inside kv_rules for damage multipliers over distance.

    And please taw --> this isn't a discussion thread, but only tutorial which gathers all the informations, thanks!

    Выложите пожалуйста patch.pack с улучшенной артиллерией.
