    Default Question about guitar tabs

Hi all I've always wondered how to play stuff like:

    E|------------------------
    B|------------------------
    G|------------------------
    D|-----------2------------
    A|------------------------
    E|-----------2------------

    and

    E|------------------------
    B|------------------------
    G|------------------------
    D|------------2-----------
    A|------------X-----------
    E|------------2-----------

    Anyone care to explain?

The standard tuning is EADGBE. You can see it on the left. The lines represent strings, and the numbers represent frets. So on the tab you posted, you would have to play the second fret of the E string, an F# note, and the 2 fret of the D string, an E note. The X represents a muted note. Simply hold your finger lightly against the string when playing it.

Thanks mate. I do know the basics like hammer-ons, pull-offs, pinch harmonics and that stuff. I was just going mental because I was thinking that I needed to palm mute only one string..

You might want to learn notation. You can learn it by yourself. Takes 2 days of practice at most to read it as quickly as tabs. You don't need to be able to sight-read, but notation helps a lot if you're playing with other musicians that don't play the guitar.
