    Default eek! help?

just cant seem to get spqr 8 working, i have vista 64 bit, a clean install of rtw gold on steam, and what seems to be a full download of spqr, the installation goes like a dream but no spqr. Ive done just about everything to try and get it working, copied rome folder, disable uac, clean game even a reinstall or two....... or three, scanned the forums for answers with no success, and i even read the instructions before trying to install in the first place, no joy.

please for the love of mars help me?

Are you in a "It won't run" situation, or in a "I'm still getting Rome Vanilla" situation?

"I'm still getting Rome Vanilla" its really bugging me now. I want the chocolate chip goodness of SPQR. Any ideas?

Find your vanilla rome.exe and make double sure that the self-installer is aimed at that identical file tree path

If vanilla is still running, and the auto-installer works just fine, the problem pretty much has to be with where the installer is aimed.

In my case, Rome is located at C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\rome total war gold

That's very definitely not where the self installer will put the files unless you tell it to.

yeah thats where its going (my file path is evr so slightly differant because of 64bit vista), the files that should be there after the install are all where they should be as far as i can tell, starting to think it might be a duff download from steam but the integrity check comes up a'ok 100%, thanks for the suggestion anyway though

hmm. Just a total shot in the dark, but in the preferences file, there's a line that says "FIRST TIME PLAY" or some such. The value should be false.

Again total shot in the dark, and after that I'm out of [bad] ideas.

Do complete reinstall to some other place then program files.

Yeah, that doesn't work with Steam. And it's not Steam's fault either, before anybody goes coocoo over their personal liberties and where they put their own files and etc, etc.

I would guess that if the install is aimed at the right place, and the install of Rome vanilla is good, it's either an issue with the downloaded installer (bad download) or an issue with the 64 bit OS
