This is a dummy's workaround (with me in the role of the dummy) to fixing a recurring problem when playing as England and the discovery/campaign of the Americas begins.

The year is 1240 AD.

DLV 6.2 patched up to the current fix with no other mini-mods

Background:
Lewes Greystoke and a decent-sized force, a merchant and a priest (no this is not the start of a joke) spawn outside the settlement of Powhatan on the east coast of the United States about where the Carolinas are. The siege of Powhatan is the obvious next move as the settlement is guarded by a few natives with pointed sticks. Siege begins ... no problem. First AI turn .... BIG PROBLEM. The natives try and break the siege by attacking the invaders. Everything looks fine until you start clicking options on the Battle Resolution window that opens up:
- clicking on Retreat option - Battle window closes and back to the main Campaign map. English army does not retreat and AI turn never advances past the Native Americans portion. Freeze Up - reload last save.
- clicking on AutoResolve - music continues to play nicely but game hangs with nothing else going on. Freeze up - shut down MTW2 and reload last save.
- clicking on Fight Battle - Instead of zooming in on Powhatan on the Campaign Map prior to loading the battle, the Zoom-in is on a forested area in Micmac territory in eastern Canada about where Quebec would be (I think this is the settlement with the long name that starts with a K). There is no sign of Powhatan or any armies. Then the screen cuts to pretty picture with witty saying, load bar starts to advance and freezes around the "D" in Deus. Freeze up - shut down MTW2 and reload last save.

I also tried ending the siege, however, I was unable to move away from Powhatan and the natives there just attacked the English force in any case on the AI turn and the same problem repeated.

Curiously, after about 5 tries at various solutions when I clicked on the "Show Settlement" button on the Battle prep window the Campaign map also zoomed in on the Micmac territory and not Powhatan.

WORKAROUND - I don't regard this as a fix since I didn't fix anything, but I did workaround the campaign-killing problem simply by using the move_character "Lewes Greystoke" x,y console command to a location not too far from Powahatan. At this point, I am unsure whether the problem will repeat if I lay siege to Powhatan again, but it has allowed me to move past this point without wasting time on a pretty blah North American campaign.
Another curious item ... on the AI turn after moving Lewes Greystoke and his force the audio cut in with the In Retreat Message and Greystoke's army moves off back towards Pohatan as if they had been defeated in battle and were retreating.

Overall though despite the fairly frequent non-recreatable ctds I've had (all on the AI turn during AUTOSAVE, I think) I've enjoyed picking up DLV again after a year away. It's an absolutely gorgeous mod and kudos to those involved in its creation.

I like to think of DLV as the Marilyn Monroe of mods ... stunningly beautiful, really fun to play with, but quite completely stable.

Hope this helps someone out there.
