WTF is wrong with my computer?(m2)

So i bought a new copy of M2, the gold edition, because my original copy has been way over-loved and scratched to buggery. I installed no problem. The game loads up no problem. when i went to start a campaign, only england and france are available, and the starting date says 1AD. If i click on start campaign, it just leads me back to the title screen. The game has worked on my computer previously just fine, the only thing i can think of is I had played the rome mod RTR a while back, im wondering if having played a mod has butt ed my computer. I really wanna play M2 goddamit and now i cant! Can someone please give me some advice on what may be wrong, i've checked and m2 is definately the only game installed, any previous mods have been removed completely.

Did you uninstall M2 and Kingdoms before installing from the latest discs?

Also what OS are you running? If either Win7 or Vista then disable the UAC before installing M2 - this old game doesn't really like it too much. Also consider installing in a folder off of the root drive (something like C:\Games).
