Can I become a protectorate to a faction?

In my Hungarian game, Russia just declared war on me (playing NTF Mod (Napoleon Total Factions)). I'm guessing the diplomacy mechanics are still the same, but I heard rumors somewhere that I can become a protectorate of a faction. If I can become Russia's protectorate, that would be awesome, if this is possible, how can I become so?

I know you could become a vassal in MTW2....so I want to say maybe..although you have to wait for the Ai to offer it to you, since it will usually never agree to anything you propose..

You do realise that as a protectorate you'll be paying half your income to Russia, don't you ?

try to play as Hungary on NTF. Economy is very hard to get going, starting settlement has only one slot
