    Default Napoleon Total Silence???

After two weeks of waiting for Steam Support I have finally managed to restore all the games in my games library to 'Ready to Play' status without having to spend days downloading them all from scratch

Thanks to the guys on the Steam Forum who provided all the help and advice.

I now have one outstanding problem before I can get back to normal play, and that is that NTW is running in total silence. The opening video runs normally with sound, Napoleon does his speech etc. but as soon as the game starts there's nothing. No sound effects, no opening advice from Miss Whiplash, no background music nothing. Checked the obvious things like the Sound Options not being muted etc, and everything looks fine.

Anyone else had this problem and found the cause?

Have you tried deleting (well, rather renaming) the preferences.script? It helped me when I had no sound at one point, but I can't remember if there was sound during the intro.

Mine runs with zero sound at all. As far as i can work out from google, if napoleans directories have a problem [like some files not matching] it wont just not load like older games but load without sound to warn you and then crash if it comes into contact with 1 of these problems. Mine has no sound as its clogged up with some bits of old mod.

Ok! just finished validating the game cache and it came up clean.

@mattgoby: That's possible the last thing I was trying to do before I lost all my games was get the All-In-One mod to work, but I can't see any obvious residual pack files sitting in the folder.

@Leobon: No I hadn't and that led me to the answer to the problem. I renamed the preferences.script > xpreferences.script and whilst I was in the scripts folder I also checked the user.script file and discovered that it was still listing two of Toon's pack files which were no longer present in the data folder so I deleted those to and everything is now back to normal.

I've since gone back and removed the 'x' from the start of the preference.script and the sound still works. So, it seems the real problem was the user.script file still pointing to Toon's non-existent pack files.

    Thank you for your help.

Now I can get back to my original quest to find a mod that makes the game worth playing

Actually, empty out your user.script, thats the problem! You have a mod in your user.script that you don't have in your data folder. Cheers, MB

Yes, I discovered that just before you posted but thanks for the advice. I'm not used to having to fiddle with the script files manually, as I use ModManager on ETW.

the script folder is right here:

    for xp - C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR PROFILE NAME\Application Data\The Creative Assembly\Napoleon\scripts

    and for vista - C:\users\YOUR PROFILE NAME\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Napoleon\scripts

and if it is from remnants of an old mod, Mitch from the great war mod uploaded this to put ur files back to vanilla. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=396175

if emptying the script folder doesnt work then just dl Mitch's data checker and reset it back to vanilla, this should work
