    Icon4 1.5 Patch killed Rome...

    So here's the deal...

    I'm running Windows 7.
I installed Rome Total War - worked fine.
I didn't save any game, or alter the game files at all, except set first time play to false.
    I installed 1.3 patch - worked fine.
I installed 1.5 patch - broke imperial campaign.

Despite the fact I have 4gb of ram on my computer, and my graphics card has 512mb of its own memory, ever since I installed 1.5 patch, whenever I try to start an imperial campaign, it crashes after the loading screen, saying that there's insufficient video memory to load a texture set. I've tried reinstalling the patch from various download locations, and the outcome is always the same.

Custom battle works fine, so the battle map seems unaffected, only campaign.

A reminder of the campaign map changes for the update:
    Campaign Map

    * We have fixed the “memory leak” slowdown issue that was seen when playing
the campaign map for prolonged periods.

    · We have fixed the Naval battles that were not working correctly in
version 1.3. AI-controlled factions will now make proper use of ships.

    · Saved games from version 1.2 will work in version 1.5. A couple of
other problems with saved games have also been fixed to prevent crashes.

    * The Gauls can no longer recruit Naked Fanatics as they no longer have
    farming-related shrines and temples.
    * Academy-class buildings now give a law bonus, as they do in the BI
expansion pack. These buildings now have uses in cities without governors or
    generals in residence.
    * Only Roman factions can hold Games at an Arena-class building.
    * Diplomacy has been “tweaked” so that Roman diplomatic activity is more
    coherent.
    * Fleeing armies can now only flee once after a large battle defeat.
I don't see anything here that can cause a video error...

anyone have any suggestions? I've tried compatibility etc, and nothing makes a difference.

I know this should have gone into tech help, but I only just noticed that section after writing this... >.<

tells me there is a texture file corrupted or listed wrong in the game.

Have you tried -show_err in the command line to see if you can fget closer to which one?

Already had to do that to get the original message...

also, I've done a completely fresh re-install, including registery clean-up... the patch worked once for campaign, but only once. Next time I tried to start or load a campaign, got the same message again.

I doubt it's patch related, then. What OS?

Windows 7, 32 bit. And I've been able to run perfectly on 1.3 and 1.0... could be that something in 1.5 uses something that the other patches don't for campaign... my disk 2 has had corruption problems in the past, which I've overcome by packing it up as an iso and mounting it without the file that was preventing installation, i.e. the barbarian intro... perhaps it could be another file is corrupt but not corrupt enough to prevent installation that doesn't come up in a new campaign in the earlier patches... but I doubt that... I'm going to try reinstalling again later using compatibilty mode for installation, run as admin for every step that's possible, and hope for the best, and if something doesn't work, I'm going to stick with 1.3 from then on, unless anyone knows the problem.

Maybe time to buy a new game. It could be whatever is missing in your ISO is also not being updated by the patch and you're going to lose this argument with it.

I'd buy a new game. I'm sure you really don't want to spend the money but you can pick up a fully patched RTW / RTW BI quite cheaply now-a-days.

At least you didn't get your original disk explode in a DVD-ROM drive like I did - it was the original RTW BI release CD-ROM and the drive was full of shards of the disk and had to be trhrown away.....
