RTW is a different engine to E:TW and N:TW. I think the R:TW and M:TW engines are 'similar' but R:TW is from 2004 and doesn't make the most of recent graphic cards let alone CPUs.
Try turing off Anti-Alaising in-game and using the Catalyst Control Centre (if it's still out there) to override the game settings. I've got a nVidia card and us the nVidia Control Panel to do the same - I used to use nHancer but with a revised version ofthe drivers that can't be used at the moment.
Although it won't make a great deal of difference try something like IOBIT's Game Booster software to remove background services (it does free up a little bit of memory). It's free software and I've used it on and off for a few years now. Before I foind that software I used to stop a lot of services using msconfig (I still do but Game Booster closes down a lot of Windows related services (printers etc) that won't be needed in 'gaming mode').
