    Default General's Bodyguard question

    Hi all.
I have changed the EDU file (and the battle models file) so that Denmark has the EE_Bodyguard instead of the NE_Bodyguard.
I have removed Denmark from the NE_Bodyguard entry and added it to the EE_Bodyguard entry in EDU. Denmark still uses the NE_Late_Bodyguard as an upgrade.
I have also added the EE_Bodyguard to the character entries in descr_strat.
Now, when I play a campaign, the characters that are there from the beginning have the EE_Bodyguard.
However, new named characters don't have it. Instead they go straight to the NE_Late_Bodyguard (even though the game has just started and there have been no building upgrades).

So what am I missing here? How can I give Denmark the EE_Bodyguard as well as the NE_Late_Bodyguard entry in the campaign?

Every faction can have only one bodyguard unit. If you have multiple units designated as bodyguard in the EDU, then only the first one will be used - depending on the ownership.

But what about General Unit upgrades (such as NE_Late_Bodyguard)? Aren't they used?

Not as far as I know - but then I have been known to err sometime.

As you have experienced, you can set any unit in the descr_strat file to be the body guard unit - simply enter it as the first unit.
In the EDU you have this attribute: general_unit = The unit can be used for a named character's bodyguard. Simple test of my assumption:

Move any two units to the top of the EDU that have the same faction in the ownership line.
Give both units the general_unit attribute and see which one will be given to the next new general.

    That is 100% true.

It a mess that CA couldn't take care of so yes it doesn't works this unit is useless.
I have checked on it like 6-7 months ago and i'm positive that Gigantus has stated the facts.

    change descr_strat
i'm pretty sure your characters have "allocated" old version of bodyguards in this file.

Just make sure the EE_Bodyguard is listed higher in EDU than the NE_late_Bodyguard, this will make new general units use the EE_bodyguard.

I see! So the Late Bodyguards aren't even in the game?

They are in the game, just not in the campaign.

Apparently because the feature to upgrade them was broken while modifying RTW's code in order to make M2TW.

You can use them in custom battles and you can have them as recruitable character generals.

If you want to have the general unit become upgraded then you have to do that by swapping EDUs when you want the upgrade to take place.

Not necessarily, because I don't think that many if any mods use the marian_reform trigger that was built into the game. The upgrade in RTW took place whenever the marian_reform event occured. Since its usually disabled in descr_strat the upgrade can never occur.

Would be great if it did work and CA just forgot how to do it. Perhaps someone can test this, if it hasn't already been done.

This has been terrorising me for months !!!
I now it can be done !!
if you activate the marian reform in the desc_strat then any new generals use the first late bodyguard version in EDU, provided the faction is in the ownership line. I have been trying to set a script that that would activate it during a campaign, using various events - moving characters off map killing the current bodyguard and respawning the late bodyguard, trying various traits and all sorts of fings but with no joy.
I have even set a upgrade_bodyguard 1 on a building in EDB set the hidden resorces Italy and Rome to several provinces and made sure the building exists within at least 3 provinces with a higher population that 25000 as I think this is how it became avail in RTW ?

I have managed to set an event that does not CTD or show any errors in the log, but when the reform triggers I just get a quick flash on the screen but the bodyguards stay the same even for newly recruited generals.

does anyone have any ideas of a trigger, that may set the marian reforms?

In RTW setting off the marian_reforms required building an imperial palace (5th level core building) in a settlement that had the hidden resource italy without having the hidden resource rome. For M2TW the first thing I'd try is using historical events or something like that, or even adding an italy hidden resource somewhere and seeing what happens when you build a 5th level core building there.

As of now I have just added the Late Bodyguards as extra armour upgrades in the EDU. They don't get the armoured horse, but that's a minor detail.
