I have a case of insomnia, I cannot sleep until at least one person posts some thoughts. Is everyone too busy playing around right now? We've waited so long to show this, I just hope people are enjoying it.
I'll be sure to post some as soon as my patch 1.2 has downloaded
I imagine most people are too busy playing around.
What is the likelyhood of a CTD?
Candide fainted...
just that you might be able to get some sleep: It's fantastic! great! amazing! super! incredible!....![]()
I'll give some feedback.
First of all. The loading times are ridiculously long. I understand that this is a bčta, and I have ful faith in the team to speeden them up in later versions.
I've already experienced my first CTD, and I'll try to 'bracket' it later on. It was however even before I ended my first turn, lol.
The lating voice mod did not install correctly. I carefully ran the installer and everything, making sure the voicemod was installed, though I don't hear any changes. (Has it got something to do with deleting some events.dat file?)
I also found a couple of glitches. (e.g.: a costum battle with Romani; Seleukid flags -error.)
Graphically, it's completely marvellous, I can't explain what a step upwards it is from vanilla.
I'll hope this bčta will resolve lots of bugs, and I also hope I can help you by finding them.
Cheers,

I've only been mucking around in custom battles and havent tried the campmap yet, but some of the skins are very nice (Carthages), others are obviously still WIP (a lot of the Roman skins for example). Also I'm having the same problem as White Knight concerning the voice mod.
But I have to go now, I'm going to lay the smackdown on Eprius. Romani style!
Thanks White Knight. As for graphics, your still in for a treat. :original:Originally Posted by The White Knight

you did nothing wrong with the voicemod. And it works but only for the wrong faction.![]()
So far it's visually beautiful, I have a pretty bad comp so the loadtimes are horribly long, the only issues I've seen so far besides that is that the voice mod doesn't seem to work for me either. Also, I remember reading that there was going to be some custom music composed, but so far in my roman campagn in both battle and campaign maps it's all the vanilla music (although the Roman generals/respones are from the Greek culture). It could just be it's not finished/in yet, or that it didn't install right.Originally Posted by The White Knight
All in all though so far so good, those are minor things for the most part, I wish I had more time to play this morning.![]()
the custom music isn't included yet. sorry.
Damn, i've hit the 1.2 patch bug. where is that zip file...

I started a campaign with Macedonia, although I disbanded my fleet and my Hetairoi (what ar they doing in Mytilene and Chalkis anyway?), exterminated the Spartans (which my general couldn't stomach=nightmare trait) and enslaved the Athenians, I am absolutely blank, -30000+ D. and no hope of earning some cash soon... :sweatingb
pro's and cons:
+The battles have been great so far, enough time to manoeuver in contrast to vanilla, where one side always broke exactly 2.13 seconds after the initial contact.
+Though of varying quality, the skins and models are a definite improvement over vanilla, I especially like what you did with the horse models.
+New buildings. It's very refreshing to see this new approach,I will have lots to learn and discover though.
+(been) stable (so far)
-long loading times (though not in the campaign itself)
-missing UI/descriptions/sprites I know it's "only" a beta, it's still irritating.
-economical balance:It can't be,I'm running out of money that fast, even though I have disbanded my ships and most expensive cavalry.
-don't ever mess up my key config again !!!!Just wanted to move my camera and routed my whole army instead... :sweatingb
Ok i see that many people have lots of problems with money.
Few advices:
-First turn is most important. Look what you have, decide what you want to do in next 5-10 years.
Basicly you almost always have two options:
1) Expand using your starting army:
This will get you into dept. Set up realistic goals, you dont want to end up with 100K dept. Reduce your forces to sieze that is absolutly necesary to achive those goals. Act quickly, time is money. Dont overstreach your forces, keep in mind that you will end up in dept.
2) Start to build up your country. Slow rout, first step is to disband as much units as you have to to keep positive cash flow.
Example. I started to play as Pontos today. I choose first aproche, in one and a half year i conquered 2 provinces. By this time i was in dept 11K. It took me 4 years to get out of this dept.
-Fleets are very expensive, dont upkeep them unless you realy, realy, realy need one. Only big and welthy empires can afford big fleets (take into acount that one unit is about 80 ships!!!!).
-Cavalry very expensive, use only few units, use your general cavalry. I play as Pontos right now. For 18 years so far i didnt train single cav unit. I have plenty of Named characters and i use them as my cavalry and very good cavalry it is indead.
-Forget about full stacks, my royal army before i had to spliit it up counted 11 units and 2400 men. Other then that i had about 600 men in garisons.
-Forget about only elite armies.
-Forget about expansion in multipul directions at the begining.
-For small faction its best to have one Royal army, your shock force. Other then that keep small garisons in cities.
-Use spys, watch-towers to predict danger and move your royal army to point of crisis.
-For garison use as cheep units as possible.
-If there is no danger disband unnecesary units.
-If you dont plan invasion in next few years disband some of your troops.
-Unless you are going to attack some region always reduce your force to size that will give you positive income.
-Set cities taxes to VeryHigh.
-Build up your economy.
Financial scroll is your friend, make use of it.
IF YOU ARE NOT ATTACKING ALWAYS MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE POSITIVE CASH INCOME!!!
Loading times are probably due mostly to models with excess polygons. We've tried to correct those problems, but haven't succeeded yet (the revised models didn't show up). We will be fixing the load times in indeterminate future versions.
Economic difficulty in the beginning is intentional. If it's really a problem for you, you'll have to do some modding, or check out our strategy guides.
Sorry. Future versions of EB should hopefully not have this problem. We're aware of the cause and will fix it as soon as possible.Originally Posted by Alcibiades of Athens

That's something to look into. Unfortunately, bribing is largely hardcoded, but we might be able to work around it somehow. Until then, follow Teleklos' advice: diplomats can't bribe a city containing a faction leader, faction heir, or character with four more Influence (e.g., a 1-Influence diplomat can't bribe a general/diplomat with 5 Influence or more).Originally Posted by DEMETRIOUS II

As for the load times, you can do something useful with that time. E.g. I keep in shape by doing abs while it's loading.
I took it for a quick spin (couldn't resist the temptation anymore) and so far, it looks FANTASTIC! This mod complete blows Vanilla RTW out of the water and it's sheer size and attention for details is overwhelming!
A beta it might be, but, by the gods, what a thing of beauty it already is! Right now, I'm cursing loudly because of the fact that I have to study ... Darn.
