    Default Grain exports

Does anyone happen to know offhand the major grain exporting regions of the ancient world? That would be a big help to us. We're almost ready to start placing that resource.

So far, here's what I've got:
    Sicily (all)
Punic North Africa plus northern Morocco
    Nile, lower and middle
Greek cities on the northern and western sides of the Black Sea (these were actually resellers, but, since that's where the main money was made, they get to be the resource holders--the overland trade of the interior provinces will represent them purchasing it)
    Sinope, Pontus, and Trebizond
    Narbonensis
    Northern and Western Gaul
    Syria
    Mesopotamia

Here's what I'm not sure about:
    Pannonia
    Armenia
    Iberia
    Caucasian Albania

    Here's what I don't know about:
    {Blank. If I knew what to put here, it wouldn't belong in here. }

Do you have sources for the last four? I'll have a think and check some stuff tonight. Otherwise, so far the list is good as far I'm aware.

Well, Pannonia I thought was fairly fertile, and the Caucasus region has lots of grain resources in the original RTRPE. Other than, though, I've got nothing. Thanks for looking into it!

Sardinia also exported grain, apparently. Various Roman leaders used it to supply grain for their troops in the early civil wars.

According to the Oxford Atlas of World History (TM), the main sources of grain in the Roman Empire were:
-Africa, the area around Carthage (apparantly still fertile despite all that salt plowed into the ground ).
    -Cyrenaica, around Cyrene (roughly Libya).
-The Nile Delta (no surprise there).
    -Sardinia and Sicily.
-From outside the borders of the Empire: the Crimean Peninsula and the area that is Bulgaria today -South Eastern Dacia I guess.

Before our time frame, it seems the Phoenicians used Southern Iberia as a major source of grain -interesting, given that they controlled or partially controlled Sardinia, Sicily and Africa at the time.
Earlier than this I can't find anything on grain trade, probably because grain leaves less archaeological evidence.

In the later days of the Empire, grain was also shipped from India to Ethiopia and Arabia -quite a distance, so India must have had a significant grain surplus for this to be feasible.

    Hope this helps.
