Been a long time...

I am back to MTW2 after a long break (and 2 PCs ago) and can't remember a darned thing about the tricks to get things set up the way I liked them... For example, where do I find settings like how to turn on/off the bouncy flags and the unit underfoot arrows?

In vanilla, they are set by default.

I have had a dickens of a time getting the game installed - something to do with Program Files (x86) and the Programs File folders. Ended up with the game in both them to get the thing to run. Anyhow, I gather that the changes need to be set in the preferences file, but in both folders the preference file just has this in it:

widescreen=0
[game]
allusers=1

Starting the game makes no difference. So, I dug up an old preferences file and put that in the folders but no joy - it seems that the game is just not using the preference file at all. Any ideas what's going on?
