Default Units not following orders to reform properly...

    Hi guys,

I'm really struggling with the huge armies you get in RS as my units are just not following there movement orders. I'll select a number of units then, click + drag so it highlights with dots there future location... however they form up in a totally different location and facing totally random directions!

Anyone have any solutions or had the same problem?

I have the same problem! Though strangely enough only with Pergamon Hoplites. Example: The aproaching enemy army maneuvers to the right/left, I move part of my main line counter, the hoplites take only a few steppes and stops. I usually repeat the process around 6 times to get them where I want them.

THe problem may be because the group of units you are trying to move are in a GROUP. Try Un-grouping it and then send the commands OR press shift + 1 as that command makes the group align in a line facing the enemy. Cheers

This is 100% an old vanilla bug...

I do not remember for sure whats causing it but I think it has something to do with unaccessable areas in the foreknow position when moving a group of units but there might be other reasons as well like some pathfinding routine not getting loaded properly during the battle map loading or it affects a particular unit...
usually this is not persistent and in the next battle should no occur again.

I had this too a while ago in a siege battle when the Garrison tried to lift the siege and I ordered my battle line to move forward a little bit and some units got dissolved all over the map and even ordering them directly to move to a certain postion did not help

Only solution..deal with it..this cant be resolved

btw I play Rome on huge settings and just have it seen once in my acutal RS II campaign and obviously in vanilla many years ago

Also, if u try to move a unit, it needs to be entirely out of combat etc, if only 1 soldier in the unit is stuck or fighting something, they will (probably) not, or hardly move

If you want your units to form up properly try clicking loose formation and then return them to tight formation.

Turned out it was my mouse that was broken! If I held onto the right button and let go it clicked mutiple times... new mouse sorted the issue out :-)

I'm not sure I got an answer to my question regarding the same subject. The only units refusing to obey orders are the Pergmon Hoplites, they are not engaged in battle, they are not touching one of my own units and they are not in a group. Also, don't know if these are significant but; They are not on guard, and are in tight formation. If tell to go, say, halfway across the map, they walk the majority of the way then stop before they line upp the way I tell them. And if I tell them to simply reposistion, they take one step, and stop. If this is a vanilla bug I apologise.

And no, I will not disband the hoplites, they are part of my first army and have begun to get their gold chevrons. Okay so I COULD disband them but it would make me very very sad.

Is that the only unit of that type you have? Or is it just that unit of that type?

Has this been happening since you started the campaign?

I don't remember, I THINK it has, but I can't really remember the early battles. But it had DEFINETLY been happening since my forces entered syria and began conquering Seleucid and Ptolemaic cities.
