I know there are computers that can beat chess grandmasters consistently, is there a mod for a very good AI in RTW?

Apparently DarthMod makes no end of improvements. I've never used it though.
The actual AI is hardcoded and there's nothing that can be done. DarthMod adds formations and such for the AI to use, but you can't make the AI smarter.
I beat back their first attack with ease. Properly employed, E's can be very deadly, deadlier even than P's and Z's, though they're not as lethal as Paula Abdul or Right Said Fred.

Alex v1.9 AI seems to be considered by most folks the best ai in the rome series?.Might've been nice if they'd knocked out another swifty campaign based on a famous Seleucid geezer or something so players could storm around with the mighty Seleucid unit roster
All things considered, apart from the unfixed bugs, pathfinding shockers, and other howlers, I'm ok with the ai in Rome and expansions. It could've been sharper and shown a bit more love, overall though its ok. (except squalor...grrr)
I sometimes wonder if or why folks seeking a stiffer challenge don't create their own house rules to give themselves limitations and all that stuff.
Having peasant-only armies must be a true test of self-discipline.![]()
I wonder what AI goodies would've been lobbed into 1.7 & 1.8 and what happened to them???![]()
I can imagine how the lobby would get filled with big fat letters then.
@OP;
The ai from let's say RS2 isn't now smarter but the battles take way longer - units holding out
very long (sometimes till death) - due to totally reworked stats - at the end
it gives the feeling like fighting a better ai. You could give that a try.

Alex dose have a slightly better AI. But most of the time you have to do a little bit of modding to manipulate or encourage the AI to behave a certain way. Alex also comes with handy features for that.
But sadly, you're stuck with an AI that is only capable of suicidal general charges, epic peasant spam, and spreading single unit stacks across the campaign map.![]()
in mods the Ai seems to be a little better for me,i was playing RS2 and the general actually charged the flank of my spearmen instead of just charging them head on which seems to be a fantastic idea for all RTW vanilla generals

Due to recent cutbacks, the light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off.
Yep - i'm also playing RS2 with alex.exe - noticed the difference in RS1.5 already. Like i said
RS2 with alex.exe makes you feel you playing a better ai - but don't expect it to be like "deep blue"
You know the prize of the chess computer which beat Kasparow?
Even though it was 1996 - The costs in total were about 5 million dollars.
They played 6 matches and the programming team could change deep blue's code
between those matches and they did it.
In 1996 a new pc for home use had about the same prize as today - maybe a 1000
dollar or euro more than today but still it's a long way to compare it to 5 millions.
If you say now computers nowadays are better than this one from 1996 - it had
about 36gb's of ram / 144gb harddisk / 216 chess processor units and it was capable
of calculating about 200 millions positions per second.
And there was the programmer team with it.

As the Alex 1.9 ai seems to be regarded as the best of the bunch, I wonder why they didnt graft it onto the regular game and BI. Not compatible or too much hassle? I'm ok with the regular game overall and havent noticed any mind-blowing changes between 1.5/6 and 1.9 It's still all geezers with pointy sticks and annoying horse archers and all that.![]()
