Default Meant for "very hard," really?

I am enjoying the game so far... I have tried OOTMM and Rhun, and I am just being constantly slaughtered. I win most battles, but as soon as I defeat a decently sized stack of troops, another one appears next round to take its place.... My troops can't be reinforced soon enough, and so I slowly lose towns. I can't expand, at all, and I find myself swearing my ass off after an awesome battle (which I win), then seeing a full stack of troops come out of the fog of war the next turn, which mine could not hope to win against..

Just wondering, can anyone play this effectively on very hard? Gah!

Try an easier faction (High Elves should be good), OOTMM are one of the hardest to play with.

Yea, I got that after being attacked from the high elves, silvan elves, and those damned dwarves.

With Rhun, I keep getting raped (albeit slowly), by Dale. They keep magically showing up with new stacks for every one they lose

You can also delete the constant help AI gets (money, extra-armies when loosing a key-settlement, autoreinforcement of the besieged cities) , I kow a tutorial was made, try to find that and you'll be able to kill the AI without having the cheating-feeling

    Ehhrm yeah
Then he can edit the files and give his militia 30 attack. no cheat feeling ...

Then it should be better if he plays on lower difficulty

HMmm, I need to find that...

I personally think the biggest problem with VH is boredom and pointlessness: I can win heroic victory after heroic victory, losing 70 men against a much larger force (with an army of Dalish militia!) but every turn another stack appears, and another, and another, and it never stops. Its always the same stack too. There's no mixing and matching or different types of stacks, but every time more or less the same stack. Rhun, for example, had stacks of 1/2 stack Balcoth tribesmen, 2 units of clansmen, 2 units of hunters, and 2 units of variags. The remainder of the stack would differ, but this was the core.

Fight that 70 turns untill you finally grind them down, and then repeat against mordor, and you just quit. I really like VH, but those stacks just annoy the living hell out of me

Sounds like an older version, should be changed since V.2.0 (2.1?) ... but you play the right/newest version?!

The more i think on it the more i realise that Vanilla is actually very unbalanced, and having factions like Rohan gives a even more worse impression how unbalanced the mod is. Im actually i think gonna give RC/RR a shot once it's released for 2.1

i fully relate to your post about what the computer does ... im eriador and im constantly fighting superior armies of size and quality then the crap eriador gets so i am cheap against them ... just take 1 calvary unit, seige their town and when they sally forth, run to the corner of the map, and once they get close run into their city (they always leave the door open) and take it before they can double back (doesnt work on tier 2 castles) ... its my special way to pay back those bastards until i can handle their forces normally

Yes it is frustrating at times. Build up first, take rebel settlements use spies to locate enemy movements before you make decisions. Dont fight to many enemies at the same time. After a while you "get to know the AI" but always be wary.

Thats the plan I've been using. It worked right up to the point when the bad guys called an invasion upon me.

I have only recently been playing TATW, and as a long time TW player, I'm decent, but not as many of the players here. I find the campaign pretty difficult on H/H, expecially early when you don't have much money and only militia troops for the most part.

With all of the mods, I find that if you know what is challenging for YOU, then that's what you do... When I fist played Stainless Steel, I tried on H/H and got waxed until I go used to the mechanics and the differences. Same in this case. It's meant to be enjoyed, and the skill of the player and amount of the challenge is different for everyone.

If you haven't played challenging mods before, this mod will be quite hard.
But after some time you will learn how to win decisive battles in a way that you can beat the next stack too.
And as someone already said, OotMM is a tough choice to begin with.

Just so you know, you don't HAVE to play on VH/VH. It's recommended but, if it's too much for your first go then why continue to torture yourself?

Also, OotMM are an hard choice: better to start with easier factions.

I play on vh/vh and up until about turn 50 maybe 60 I get raped. After that though when I can pump out "better" quality troops I do alright, despite the constant attacks...

Strange, I don't get any stack spam. The enemy is attacking from time to time but in general they are sending only one army. Of course a big empire sends more troops than a small one.

Start with High Elves or Silvan Elves. There is not much you could do wrong with them.
