    Default Questions regarding guild

    I would appreciate any help

    1. Is there reason why I can't get a certain guild? I am currently playing as Milan. As a heavy calvary user, I would naturally want the Horse breeder guild. Usually I have no problem getting it by converting a citadel after rolling out knights from it. But it seems that I can't get even a basic level even though I have a plain castle with no guild recruiting like 50 over units of calvary already.

    2. If a faction gets the HQ, and I capture the city housing the HQ, will I get the HQ or it will move to other parts of the faction? The Thieves HQ was in Rome until I captured it. I noticed all I got was a Master Thieves guild. Now that Papal States has been reduced to a single city at Jerusalem, where did the HQ go?

    3. Has anyone managed to get a Master Mason or even HQ? I converted a citadel into a city and I got only a basic level mason and remained that way after so many turns. I have played the game 4 times and this is only the second time I got mason. :S

    4. Is there a limit of the number of guilds I can get? I rememeber my last game as HRE, I stopped getting offers to build merchant guilds after some time. Most of my cities are merchant guilds (extra $ and calvary militias :p)

These are from mye experience (I'm not completely sure if they are correct.

    1. Then it must be because other guilds find you more attractive. Recruit more, and they should eventually come to you.
    2. The HQ will be destroyed, and can be rebuilt another place (but then someone must get a new offer)
    3. No

Make sure you recruit your cavalry in only one city. This way you'll get your horse breeders' guild in that city quite quickly.
When playing as Milan I always get all cavalry in Florence. After recruiting ~20 units in total I get an offer from the horse breeders' guild.

Each guild has only one HQ in the entire game. That means if there already was one in Rome nobody else could've had it, therefore it didn't downgrade for that reason. You must've exterminated Rome after capturing and the guild HQ was destroyed in the process. On the side note - guilds choose settlements that are best suited to host their HQ's, no matter what faction is in control of it.

If I'm really desperate to get a masons guild I'd alter descr.stat file, because it's virtually impossible to get in the game. Even if you do its benefits are not worth the hustle.

And no, there is no limit to how many guilds you can have.

Thanks guys for clearing my doubts

I have already recruited (and disbanded or wasted them on autoresolving rebels) more than 50 units of cavary on Granada (its the only citadel I have) but no avail. I will keep recruiting. Good thing I kept this citadel as cities regenerate their calvary too slow.

I am pretty sure I saw Thieves HQ when I planted spy in Rome. After I took over it I sacked it (I always sack like 99.9%) and saw a Master instead. I am guessing another faction is holding it now. Its a pain to have other factions hold it and see your order drop like mad due to spies all over.

BTW is there a way to see who is holding the HQ? I mean other than sending spies around and check city by city...

For guilds, you'll need to concentrate your focus in recruitting: all your merchants in one city, all your spies in anothr, all your cavalry somewhere else, etc...

Firstly there can only be one guild per settlement so it already has one then destroy it to get Horse Breeder guild.
The First level for it that is minor one you will get when you have a fortress.

No guilds don't get transfered when a settlement is captured. When you capture a settlement, you have the option to Occupy, Sack or Exterminate. Occupying a settlement brings it under your rule peacefully, but the people might rebel against you. Sacking allows your troops to loot and pillage, which gives an order and cash bonus, but buildings are damaged and people are killed. Exterminating kills most of the population and reduces the level of the buildings, but brings the population under your control.

No there is no limit to same guilds you have all over your kingdom. Read the Guild Guide for details for Mason one.
