Default Am I doomed or is there hope?

Playing 6.2 w BB2.8, as England. This is my first DLV campaign.

I am 40 turns in and I am geting a bad feeling! My economy is struggling to stay above water, without the Crown Duty or gifts from nobles I would be sunk.

I have London, Southhampton, Nottingham, York and Caen. Two merchants, which I am moving to Ireland because they keep getting attacked in France.

I have not been able to build a Drill Square or Port. I do have grain exchanges in two cities.

I have won the battles I have fought so far.

I thought I was sunk financially after 20 turns but stuck it out to this point.

Should I play this campaign as far as I can, or is it hopeless?

One other question....Whenever my King is moving and his path is blocked, he loses all movement ability till the next turn. Is this correct?

Thanks to all who worked on these mods, really amazing

Two questions: How big is your army? Who are you at war with (if you are at all)?
If you are struggling with army upkeep but are not at war with your neibourghs go on crusade with most of your armies, you get free upkeep and can improve your economy while they are on crusade
In regard to your king, yes this happens to all characters, annoying i know...

sounds to me like your spending too much on your military. disband some units and focus on building your economy. build buildings that say increases trade goods and as your treasury exceeds say 10,000 a turn rebuild your army to where it is now. it sounds like your use to vanilla where your attacked from another faction at turn twelve but DLV isn't like that ecspecially with England. i don't know your current tactical situation so if your about to get invaded by scotland disregard what i just said but at turn 20 they should still be tackling inverness or aberdeen.

Break up and sell every building in Caen (expect for any churches), then flog Caen to the Flemish, try to get a trade alliance. Move those men over to England to bolster your troops. Try to perform those missions (especially port blockade ones) for troops and/or cash. When a Crusade is called, use the chance to raise heavy horse and infantry which you use to take cities on route (as long as they're enemies, rebels or excommunicated, fleece those cities for the wealth as you go, sell every building and flog the place off to your allies (or give to the Vicar of St. Peter in Rome for his papal blessing).

Restart your campaign under these guidelines and you might be successful.

    Good luck Commander!

It seems you have too many troops indeed. In case you are not currently at war and if you do not want to disband your armies to the point that you are defensless, try garrisoning them in forts (4 in each). What I mean is having no armies on the map at all. Ohh, and a good trade point for your merchants would be the spices near Venice. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. I think I waited too long to increase my cities and still don't have a good city:castle ratio. Although my army is not that large it has been big enough to suck up a lot of money each turn so hard to get ahead financially.

Right now Scotland seems to be massing troops on the border. Norway besieged york for one turn, they have one general with a small army. Also Denmark is outside of Nottingham with one general but just declared war on Norway. When these other factions appear on your land, is there a way to get rid of them without attacking?

I am fairly new to M2TW, only played a little vanilla before this campaign. I have definitely changed the way I played from before, much more enjoyable now. Still learning the game.

You could bribe the foreign armies, but since you don't have much cash that's not an option. The only way to get rid of them then is to kill them off. There is actually a 3rd option. If they're your allies and are standing next to another nation's army, you can attack that nation's army and you allies will join you (and perhaps get killed off in the battle).

i would ally with denamark and kick the vikings back to norway. then conquer york and send your merchants to america to get the tobbaco and gold if you haven't disbanded your navy yet but it sounds lke you'll need it since foreign powers are trying to grab land on the british isles. btw this rarely happens, but sometimes flanders trys to take london

I am allied with Flanders(perfect rep). Norway dropped the siege at York without attacking. I recognized some of the mistakes I made so far and not sure if I want to restart or really have a challenge on my hands. If a Dark Ages event happens soon I am doomed from all that I have read.

Just as I resolved to start a new campaign my heart said follow thru! I am up to 1206. My finances are still struggling but a gift from the Pope and military access "donation" from Flanders has given a temporary boost. I got Norway to cease hostilies, not sure how because they rejected the cease fire offer but warmed up to a bribe that they turned down but demeanor changed and in the end no money changed hands but they are no longer at war with me!? Denmark is landing troops at Nottingham and I have a pretty sizeable force to deal with them. Not sure if I will attck or see if they decide to siege. They are neutral at the moment but looking a bit hostile to me. My alliance with Spain is very good and I hope that pressure from Spain, and Flanders will keep France at bay. HJours of the day disappear while playing this

My England game is in the 1400s... Finally united the whole isles and can raise a stout army with Culvern Cannons and the such. However the entire continent is under the thrall of Lithuania!

How do I sell buildings? I am guessing that is not the same as destroy them?
