Strange 'opens everything' bug

I've recently been experiencing a bug with M2 that makes the game utterly unplayable. I've had this problem with both a retail version of M2 that I own and a version that I bought on Steam hoping to solve the problem. I'm running windows xp home, can provide further details about my computer if it'll help. I'm not doing anything weird, just literally running vanilla M2.

The bug:

While i'm playing, both the console and the in-game menu will open. If i'm in a battle it will set the speed to 3x, if i'm on the campaign map it will end turn. This never happens on any menus, only in-game. As you can imagine, it's incredibly aggravating, because in battles 3x speed + all hotkeys etc disabled by console + menu = all my men getting slaughtered. And ending my turn before i'm ready is just insult to injury. It only started doing it on the campaign map in the steam version. In retail it only did it in battles, and it's only done it once in campaign map so far in the steam version (turn 2, HRE campaign).


The only thing I can think of is that i'm using a wireless keyboard and blips in the signal might be being interpreted by the M2 client as 'press every button once, in order' or something equally ridiculous, but that seems weird. After posting here i'm going to test that by physically unplugging my keyboard and then playing (it's really with only mouse, but as a test) and seeing if it still happens.

Any help would be appreciated. I don't have this issue or anything like it with any other game or program.

Wireless keyboards and mice have been known to have issues.

Have you tried a PS2 keyboard?

Have you tried updating your keyboard drivers?

Alright, fixed it.

Went and found an old keyboard, plugged it in.

Doesn't do it anymore. Weirdest thing. Must be something specific to M2 that causes it to do that. It's an older model microsoft wireless keyboard, plug'n'play etc. It's nice to finally be able to play M2, turn 17 HRE, already have Venice on it's knees, heh. I'm going to have to get some mods to make this harder, as despite my determination to play it out historically, stupid AI randomly attacking me and then refusing peace despite being offered exorbitant amounts of money is just eugh and when I fight back I end up destroying the whole faction by accident.
