OK guys what rules have you found that balances the game the best.I bring this up because of 1 rule that sh!ts me to no end,and that is the 2 art max rule,2 art max is just a way of saying 2 howies max on a lot of the maps,so if its say a 2v2 or 3v3 you basically have 8 or 12 howies on the field and no cannon which is just wrong.

I have started playing alot of terrain maps again and i have found 1 howie/uni/fixed max 5 light inf max perfect.Against better players the games go nicely and even against the stronger nations it seems more balanced with both players bringing a good mix of everything but i might bring the light inf limit down to 4 and have no sniper limit also if i could be bothered explaining it every game i would let players bring more experimental howies if they wanted,so they have the option of more indirect fire if they so choose, but with out the devastation that multi howies can cause. Also 2 arty max on grassy flat can mean 2 12pbr max just sit there and wait untill the other guy knackers (thats aussie for tires or nuts)them selves out.Dragon clan im looking at you for this and im not sure if it's cheese or good play.

So to get back to the question what rules do you guys play? and are you disgusted in 2 art max rule as much as me?

When I host which isnt much because not many people can join my games, alot of the times I let my opponent choose the rules or i say no fixed and if you want to add any thing feel free to do so. This might be to do with the fact that i wait for someone to join for 10-20 minutes so i dont want the guy to leave if he doesnt like the rules I just basicaly want a game.

well i still dont get why no fixed is a rule for every game - ive never seen rockets do much damage - so i could definantly live with 1 art 5 light rule.

i dont have a problem with 125 range but a rule of no 125 range would make kiting more difficult - so maybe 1 art /5 light max /no 125 range would be balanced

i played guy today who brought 20 6lb art to a no art game - dont think ive seen that since etw - very funny so i turned fraps on - i wasnt supprised when he pulled with 2 left

The machines rose from the ashes of the nuclear fire. Their war to exterminate mankind had raged for decades, but the final battle would not be fought in the future. It would be fought here, in our present. Tonight...

Listen, and understand. That terminator is out there. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead.

Problem is, 3 mortar batteries can easily kill a General after deployment then focus on cav. Also promotes camping as I've never seen a player with rockets move forward. Ever.

I always use 2 max art with other art rules as i dont think it historic to ahve more art. Also i agree with you on howies, i normaly ban them cause of teh camping game play they cause. plus more than a ratio of 1 howy to 4 otehr art is not historic

Playing the game is not meant to be a lesson on the history channel mate its designed to be fun and give you a feel of the times, but i can understand where you are coming from but i think we are a few years off having games like this look anywhere near real.

a few years gone, rather than a few away?

i rarely take art to battles nowadays, but i can understand if a defensive player wants to use them.plus on some maps, artillery is almost necessary (e.g. waterloo, to stop building camping).in terms of getting a good balance to the game, i think one howitzer is fine, plus a couple cannons, so maybe 3art/1how max.thats plenty of art, its 20% of the army, which although historically inaccurate, in terms of manpower is ok-ish

No i didnt mean a 1 art max rule just 1 howie/uni/fixed so pretty much the indirect weapons,i just find limiting these weapons to 1 gives foot and horse cannon some breathing space,it's only really important on maps like homestead or spanish lake side where it is easy to hold up large forces for a long time and bombard the hell out of them, and i also see no reason to limit 125 units,i feel they are a very balanced unit and more of a specialty unit used for traps, staking strong points,or pulling your opponent out of position,so spamming them would be a disadvantage.

I also thought rockets where crap then i played a couple of games where they were spammed and defended well and was surprised at how much damage they do when focused on one point, then the closer you get it just gets worse.I suppose its not so bad when your playen as one of the superpowers but with the lesser nations facing it can be a pain in the ass.

Histwars been out for quit a bit shortly ill be checking out MP as it working now unlike at release

But you can get lost in the battle of order editors. there so great and confusing

One thing i do love is that grand strategic and tactical moves are most important for victory unlike nap, were moves are quite limited
