    Default D/L finally and....

Started a GCS campaign and the cost of units was a big shock, needless to say after hiring all the mercs I could at cost I then proceeded to attack Macedon in the normal way, straight into the red on turn 1 so all my FMs are with the Army to back it up, Macs only have 1 stack left, pretty confident I can beat them but am going further in to the red every turn.

Is there a way to beat the Macs without hiring mercs and leaving FMs to govern without being so seriously outnumbered at the start, already thinking I will have to restart anyway.

Any and all tips as to how you had a successful GCS campaign welcomed asap

Pick your battles. Your units are surprisingly high quality. So you can disband a few. Unlike other mods. This one favours a bit more of a turtling play style. So Mad house Blitzing isn't too smart. Try and fight the battles you know your small armies can win. Such as Fort battles, where you can bottle neck them entering the fort. Bridge battles. The list goes on

Hmmn, have noticed that the hoplites are pretty hardy, took a bodyguard(non field commander) and 2 levy hoplites 15mins to destroy 1 unit of them in the square of the Macs last town.

I carried on, combination of casualties for some very desperate battles and conquered cities has got me back in the black, also appears I'm making more money than I did in XGM so that's encouraging, am just consolidating my economy after crushing the Macs, the IGCS have that huge stack next to Thermon which is causing me great concern. My poor Spartans were reduced to 47 men out of 200 mid way through the campaign against Macedonia and are currently out of the fight in Sparta.

What's the deal with local governors?
Sure I'll have many more questions but that I'll do for now.
Am a turtle player so any strategy tips welcome

XC is not meant to be played like XGM, it takes considerable resources to try a blitz.
Your starting forces are small but ideal for city defense, it's relatively easy to bleed the maks in the street of sparta and the walls of athens.

Local governors are small infantry bodyguard units that excel in city defense.
You can use them to bolster your garrison and freeing your FM for generalship role rather than governor ones.

Or if you get one thats got decent morale and command stats, you can delegate them to a commander role (wheres they function the same, just not horsed)

My AAR uses one in this very role!

Ok, will keep a lookout for good ones.

Turtled right up till the 220sBC, am making so much money without an army of such and decided to use it to bribe Thermon, got a sharp warning from the IGCS, wow, awesome, and uh oh So a year or two passed and one of their FMs was to close for comfort with a small stack so I bribed him too, his traits were awful so I stuck him next to the nearest IGCS town and they promptly attacked him leaving me at war with them with no army, had one up and running in 3 turns however and am on the way to obliterate the.

Question: Epirus sat there with his entire stack the whole 40+ years and did nothing, I am not allied to them, but until the bribing I had done nothing underhand, and only occupied cites, is this a factor or have they been made less aggressive?

They are probably cash strapped, in such a situation AI will be relatively passive in hope to be able to get some money.
