what do u think is the best?????????????????
what do u think is the best?????????????????
In what context?
The AI is basically the same, and Empire has a larger map than Napoleon. Napoleon however has a better map (smaller regions, attrition areas etc.)
I wouldn't say I actually prefer one over the other, ETW gives you more freedom, whilst Napoleon is restricted to europe and the middle east, but I think that is offset by the regions in Napoleon, which make wars much more enjoyable (for me at least)
both games are a piece of. download darthmod. that makes the game playable.
Post Edit:-
Please don't bypass the censor, you already know it's repercussion.
i agree as well, even though i never bought NTW. i was gonna, felt tempted to, but then i said "i just cant do it. im not gonna waste 50 bucks to buy ETW version 1.0" (because vanilla ETW can be considered alpha testing)
sad thing is, the game designers probably never wanted to release the game, but with the goddamn deadlines...
yo man their not that bad (if you play as ottomans) i like ETW for bigger map but i like NTW for detailed regions and the conuquering how you can liberate or sack or just go in with out damageing the city. But they are ok STW2 will be way better(i like hand to hand not guns)
Both in their own great way. Both are great. Haters gonna hate, ofc

The effects in NTW are waaaaaaaaay better, the campaign is also a little more immersive annd quicker paced, but ETW has more freedom and greater variety, among a few little things between the two of them

After playing NTW, the only reason you would play ETW is due to the larger scale of the map and factions. Apart from that Napoleon is better in every way; graphics, the power of artillery and more regions per country. Also the fact that units, even basic line infantry looks varied instead of the generic stuff in empire.
over 1,400 hours playing ETW, only 180 odd playing NTW, says it all really.![]()
you will miss india and america, the middle east and north africa in the main campaign.
militrary focus.
few cities compare to empire.
but the battel is better than empire not the visual effect but the balance.. rally button is great.
naval battels are faster and you can repair the ships during the fight.
not buggy as empire.
I'd say that they are quite equal
Advantages with ETW are: a bigger campaign map, more playable factions, colonies
Advantages with NTW are: a more historical campaign and so good for roleplay, a lot of fixes from Empire
NTW The Advantages:
-Longer Historical Campaign
-A.I. is quite smart
-4 Seasons are now available in Total War Series
-Awesome Effects
-24 Turns per year
-More Variety of units ( no more clone wars lol )
-Naval Battles are fixed... so far
ETW Advantages:
-Bigger Map
-Colonies
-More Technology to research
-The First EVER naval battle feature (but fail)
-Great Effects
-Darthmod Always the answer if you want to make ETW better than NTW
NTW Disadvantages:
-Map is too.. too small
-only 4 Playable factions in the grand campaign
-You will miss America and India
-You need a supercomputer to play this game on maximum settings ( if you want fps 40+ )
-Some minor bugs
ETW Disadvantages:
-"Attack of the Clones"
-MAJOR BUGS!!
-You need 6 patches to play this game but still some MAJOR BUGS!!
-Terrible AI
-Some bugs in Naval Battles
-Sometimes the game crashes.
-In the grand campaign, after end of the turn, you will stuck at otoman for like 1 - 2 minutes
-You cant play minor factions ( except maratha )
And again, if you want to make ETW is better than NTW, darthmod always the answer ^^
*Poof* Bump for the holidays. I'll take OW's response as a base, changes in blue.
NTW The Advantages:
-4 Seasons are now available in Total War Series
-24 Turns per year
-Better Multiplayer support
-Far less resource waste - runs fine on my non-gaming laptop.
-Game feels far more balanced. In particular, you no longer accumulate more money than you know what to do with. The unit replenishment feature slows down invasions, somewhat obscuring that the player has an unbeatable army.
-More diplomacy options
-Naval combat is much quicker
ETW Advantages:
-Bigger Map
-Colonies
-More Technology to research
-Darthmod Always the answer if you want to make ETW better than NTW
-More factions to play
-More mod tools & quality mods (like DM)
-Significantly more unit choice, esp. with the many, many AUMs
NTW Disadvantages:
-BAI still frustratingly dumb and occasionally totally unresponsive, doesn't use environment.
-only 4 Playable factions in the grand campaign
-You will miss America and India
-Navies are still optional (and always a waste) when playing with the AI.
-Only able to research a very small # of techs before game is over
ETW Disadvantages:
-You need 6 patches to play this game but still some MAJOR BUGS!!
-Some bugs in Naval Battles
-3 theaters + trade areas is overwhelming
-lagggggggg (esp. during fort battles when it's always unplayable)
Conclusion: I still strongly prefer the gameplay of ETW because of the vast amounts of quality mods & additional factions to play. I always found playing in India was most enjoyable, which was unfortunately excluded from NTW. NTW shifts almost all the focus away from the campaign and toward the battles, which would be great except the AI is still useless enough that it'd be more "tactical" for AI armies to form a straight line. However, in online play (which I've only used twice), I prefer NTW. Also, because NTW runs on my laptop (unlike ETW, which'll only run on my gaming PC), I've stuck with NTW lately.
Since focus seems to be on STW2, now, I assume the BAI in NTW will never be fixed. Hopefully, STW2 will either be easier and more rewarding to mod, or CA will at least produce a competent BAI. Unfortunately (for me), I suspect the series will continue with the precedent of NTW and become a game which is only enjoyable online.

I thinkObiWan86 is looking at NTW through a rose coloured monitor screen. Personally I would say:
NTW
-Longer Historical Campaign - But the coalition campaign is completely ahistoric and pointless and Napoleon’s campaigns are heavily scripted and lack any real strategic depth.
-The AI is still dumb, and in many area’s even dumber than it was in vanilla ETW.
-4 Seasons are now available in Total War Series, but they have little effect on anything. The attrition concept is just a joke with no real impact on gameplay.
-Awesome Effects??????? The game is plagued with overly theatrical special effects and animations that would do credit to Universal Studio’s film. In fact, the game has a lot of similarities to a special effects movie in that it’s mostly special effects but has no real substance or story line.
-24 Turns per year are necessary because the game only covers part of the Napoleonic period of history.
-More Variety of units. Most of which never existed, or are incorrectly named (e.g. The Royal Scots Greys) and are incorrectly uniformed.
-Naval battles are a farce, ships can still sail into wind, there is still a red line enclosing the ocean that restricts maneouvring options, and the ships stats are still tailored to make MP games interesting rather than reflect their actual potential.
ETW
- It can be modded to make it work. (Well work better anyway, there are still limitations imposed by the game design)
- The factions at least have slightly varying geo-political influences that make them different to play.
- A lot of novelty units have been included to make the MP game more interesting.
- Little thought was given to the naval side of the campaign.
- There are no major bugs apart from the ongoing lag caused by the AI in fort battles.
- The AI has been significantly dumbed down since MTW2, ‘fire at will’ no longer works at all.
- The RTI Campaign actually has a point and allows you to play the full campaign as the USA in the final Phase.
