Default Question about faction and regional units

Hi. First of all I have to blame EB team, past and present, for what they did and continue doing to me: making almost impossible to find another TW game or mod any enjoyable after playing with EB. So, a huge THANKS for your beautiful gift to us.

Now my question. In EB you can find some "non-national" units in the factional pool (i.e. in Carthaginian pool iberian assault infantry) so I never fully understood what was the criterion to include the units in each pool. My thought is that (i.e.) iberian units should be trained only in Iberia (for any faction that controls a region there) although hired as mercenaries in a more extended zone. So, the question is how the assignment of units in each pool will be in EB2.

Thanks in advance for any reply.

The reason things like the Iberian assault infantry were part of the factional roster was that they were a product of that factions military and not a subject peoples.

Sticking with the example of the Iberian assault infantry, they were Iberians soldiers who were refitted with new armour by the Carthaginians. Under their own native military they would have never fought like that, therefore they are considered a "Carthaginian" unit.
A similar example would be the various Roman Auxilia, who were native soldiers refitted for service in the Roman army.

As always you will have to wait until we reveal them.

So far the new factions that have been revealed are the Boii, Bosporan Kingdom, Massylii and Pergamon.

Will the Illyrians exist as a rebel province?

Obviously part of the worldwide conspiracy to erase all evidence of the Illyrians from history.

IIRC there are quite a few tweaks avaialable to the team vis-a-vis mercs thanks to Kingdoms.

For example mercs can become available by region according to one's alliances, province control or certain buildings.

So there may be a case where (for example) Carthage can access certain Iberian units in (say) their port cities if they have an alliance with an Iberian faction, or if they hold an Iberian province, or they have built a certain building (eg some sort of "tribal alliance" govt building). This might represent varying levels of merc availability due to friendly tribes offering support, and being hooked into the extensive Carthaginian merantile empire.

Just speculating of course but I believe the functionality is there for the EB 2 team to do some quite funky things. So there might be a case for a few Armenian cataphracts to become available to Pontos as mercs if they are allied to Armenia (I belive the Hai king sent some thousands of catas to help Mithridates in one of his wars), if the team wanted to represent that posibility in that way.

Cyclops, what you just described sets my mind spinning with ideas. I hope EB2 will take advantage of that to make for more complex recruitment possibilities.

Some questions for the EB team

First off, are you guys gonna use the whole reduced and free upkeep for certain units like militias, levies, and privately equipped troops and if so, what criterion do you use

Secondly, are you gonna use scripts to call up levies I.E. if a capital of a faction is threatened you could get a bunch of cheap levies to represent the leaders consricpting people

And thirdly, how are you going to represent the different types of armies, recruiting them, and the costs they have on a factions economy, I.E. a decent yeomen levied army like greece or republican rome, a tribal levy based army with a small professional core based on a warrior classlike the Adeui/Celts, a more feudal like army with a few good noble troops and some leavies with few professional troops like Paritha and Macedon(to an extent), or a completely professional army like the Imperial romans

I was involved in leading/planning a mod about the Gallic wars and we had most of it planned out along with a basic map, faction list and unit rosters, and other stuff but we didnt have many technical modders and everyone got busy with other stuff

I would like to be involved in the EBII team helping to work out and possibly things like I asked about above
