    Default Underrated horror movies

starting this thread to hope fully see if someone can suggest one that I havent seen, dont bother with the popular ones that are widely known. Ill give one though, In The Mouth of Maddess a John Carpenter movie that pays homage to HP Lovecraft.

The Thing. The Fog. Basically all John Carpenter's films. I'm not a big horror fan (most of it is over-the-top gore (nowadays)) but for some films you have to make exceptions.

When I watched The thing for the first time I was like 10 years old and got really impressed by the movie. I just watched the movie some months ago and had a totally different opinion about the movie, actually I thought it was pretty boring .

How about Dog Soldiers? At first I thought it would be a terrible B-movie, but it turned out to be pretty good.

What??? I just rewatched it and it reminded me of how brilliant it is. It's not about action, it's about paranoia, it's brilliance is that noone knows who is the Thing. The scene where they test each other's blood is brilliant because you don't know what is going to happen!

I wasnt expecting action, actually I was expecting to get sucked into the movie which didnt happen. WHen I watch horror movies I expect something more dense like evil dead, for example. In evil dead you really cant realize time is passing. In the thing there are some moments when Id rather eat some popcorn than actually watch the movie. Maybe it is just a matter of taste.

I would have thought that any attempt at eating popcorn during the Thing would lead to vomiting, hardly the most pleasant film. Anyway, everything is a matter of taste.

I think alot of people are like that, either they remember an old flick being better then it was or their taste just changes over the years.

The Haunting, Kwaidan (Japanese Film), and Rosemary's Baby. No clue if they're actually underrated, but being older movies from the 60's they often get overlooked.

I would like to mention the 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead by Tom Savini. Very seldom mentioned when talking about Romero's Dead movies and almost a bit forgotten. As far as remakes goes, this one is top quality since it stays true to the original yet adds a new twist, so to speak. George Romero himself produced it and was very much involved in the movie, and you can tell it's done by people who really love the original, and not just out to cash in on a popular franschise.

Dead snow, the best Norwegian nazy zombie splatter movie ever made.

I bought it for the cheesy tag line but got really impressed by how it managed to be genuinely scary. Basicly it's the perfect mix of camp, scares, and blood and guts.

Hehe sounds like Flight of the Living Dead then, real cheesy title, touch of humor but still a surprisingly fun movie to watch. Hmm guess the old original Texas Chainsaw is somewhat neglected now a days but all true horror fans would have seen it so guess doesnt count

Was good no questioning it but I thought the Dawn of the Dead remake was even better, hell imo it surpassed all of Romero's films.

    Twilight

(Seriously, if you're not scared by Edward Cullen perving over whatever-her-name-is whilst she sleeps then there is something wrong with you. Certainly it is a horrific film)

I will second Rosemary's Baby, it is excellent!

I think The Frightners with Michael J. Fox is underated. It starts out as a comedy then gets very chilling at points.

    This.

Horror movies kind of suck most of the time. Zombie movies are okay though, especially ones like 28 Days Later

The Mist was a very enjoyable movie. Good call.

I have never been all that impressed by Romero honestly. Thought the Dawn of the Dead remake was awful to.
