Default Why change to a smaller timescale?

There are posting about changing "timescale" within file:
    "C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign\descr_strat.txt"

Most discussions talk about changing it from 2.00 (2 years) to 0.50 (6 months).

If by default "timescale 2.00" and a completing a structure takes 3 turns (6 years) abiding by this timescale, then is it really worth it to slowwww downnnn the timescale to 0.50 in order to wait for the same structure to be completed in 12 turns?

There are a couple of reasons. Getting longer play out of the game, and also the fact that some people get attached to their generals and want them to be around for more gameplay.

Firstly by changing the time scale in descr_strat.txt file the character aging won't change it will be the same.
Next is that the time for a building to be constructed will also remain same that is its dependent upon the no. of turns not years.

So the only use of it is you get more time and a player can complete the game at his\her own pace buying more time one could say.

i use the 2 turns per year system. i always change it to 0.50 timescale because i'm used to it already since Rome total war. and the aging and season perfectly match to it.

Changing the turns/year doesn't change how many turns it takes to build buildings or units.

Characters already age at .5 years/turn, so changing the turns/year makes the passage of time fit with character aging, so you don't end up with the same king for 240 years.

Most historical events are tied to the year, so lowering the time scale makes them take longer to happen. Personally, I don't like having gunpowder almost as soon as the game begins, which is why I change the timescale.
