Default Troops are disregarding my orders

I was laying siege to a Carthaginian settlement, when the army inside it attacked me.
I ordered my Polybian cohorts and Triarii to go into manipular formations,

And instead, they ignore my orders, break formations and scatter, and charge without orders.

EDIT: Furthermore, when they reach the enemy, they do not fight, but stand there and get slaughtered, while I constantly order them to retreat

    What is going on lol

Perhaps AI Assist was turned on accidentally?

    Woah, this is quite something!
I hope it can be fixed, bro. In the meantime, there's always auto-resolve?

well, they're on guard mode... and you told the general to move with his army... something I never do because it makes them get in one big line, so instead I select the whole army minus one unit and it fixes the problem.

Just a little bit of frustration I have with my campaigns, don't quite know the relevance.

I had a similar problem in sieging a Ptolemaic city, l needed 10 minutes and hundreds of attempts to force the soldiers to climb the siege tower. Then 10 minutes to capture the gateway, then another 10 to force them to formation and attack.... This was my slowest battle ever (more than 2 hours)
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Look how many casualties l took because of those bugs....

I'm running RSII on the RTW engine, not BI
Have you any experiences with this on the original RTW or on Alexander?

Each of my different groups received different orders
Group 1 (not including the general) was the only group I gave orders for to go into manipular formation.

it happend on RTW and BI...in ALEX now i really don't think it happend but not 100% sure.So i say again this isn't a mod bug just a game bug.To avoid it try to move troops one by one and don't use pause mode. For me this work but you must be speedy beacuse no Deployment Phase

The battle began, and it didn't give me any options to deploy, lol. Same when Hannibal ambushed me. On the screen notifying me of the ambush, it said that I would have time to deploy, but nope. The battle commenced upon loading, without giving me any option to deploy, or even click 'Start Battle'

Looks like you're right. This was rather annoying. What on earth could cause this to happen?
    Anyways thanks

With guard mode off, I got pretty much the same results. Except, however, my troops actually fought upon engaging the enemy. But the enemy troops acted strangely too. Balearic Slingers and Carthaginian Archers left my troops alone as they advanced. They then charged into my Republican Cohorts while the rest of their army strolled along nonchalantly
