    Default Honor vs Glory

If you could only pick one to live your life by, which of the two philosohpies would you pick; Honor or Glory? What are some consequences and/or benefits to your pick (if any). Who or what person, group, idea, or thing embodies and/or inspires your choice. Could you also interpret this question -honor or glory- as "life is about doing what is right" vs "life is about doing what you want."

    Thanks!

What is right is subjective. What I want to be right is what is right, therefor it can only truly be what you want.

I think you might mean Honor or Greed.

Glory, imo, is just the exulted form of honor. A person honored above all others can be said to be glorified. I definitely wouldn't say the pursuit of glory is "doing what you want."

An regular person doesn't have a luxury for such principles. You do what's relatively "right" at the moment, you don't use some pre-conceived ideals to justify your each and every action in your life.

Honor is perhaps one of the best traits someone can have.

Glory on the other hand is less easily forgotten.

    Honour.

Glory is all well and good, but it is somewhat inherently selfish: the quest for distinction, praise and acknowledgement of your deeds often requires you to put yourself first in order to achieve the glory you seek.

Honour, by contrast, is much more selfless in nature. While someone seeking glory may be tempted or be liable to put themselves first to gain their prize, those living by honour gain their prize by putting others first.

I'm confused with the question. Honor is simply a measure of someone's trustworthiness gaged by their actions generally considered to be 'good' by a group. It quite literally means a gift and to honor someone is to give them a gift. This has come to mean a symbolic gift such as respecting them for being honest but it doesn't really have much to do with doing the right thing in any objective sense. What is honorable in one culture is abhorrent to another.

I think a more appropriate question would be cooperation versus selfishness.

Honor, glory is meaningless to me as I find others generally annoying, and wouldn't want most people to pay any attention to me at all. On the other hand I have a powerful conscience which would make living dishonorably quite unbearable.

Glory is meaningless, and completely selfish most of the time. For me, a concept such as that of Honor is much more meaningful.
