The largest??? Well, the other day in my Greek campaign, I had just shipped a freshly recruited Corthinian/Spartan full stack (1 Armored General, 5 Spartans, 6 Armored, 2 H. Pelts, 2 Archers, 2 Greek Cav, and 1 Ballista and Onager. All with +3 exp and +1 weapons and armor) to Lydia to confront the Seleucids. I was giving them financial aid before to hold off the Egyptians, until I was ready to conquer them and prepare with the inevitable war with Egypt. I would've much rather have had the Seleucids (the weaker of the two) occupy Asia Minor, but they apparently didn't understand what 12 shipments 60,000 denarii was capable of. So, I had to knock them off before the Egyptians took their last three provinces (Cilicia, Lydia and Ionia), which would be crucial to getting my foot in the door of Asia, and to skyrocketing my economy to take on Egypt's military juggernaught. So, when my force reached the southern coast of Asia Minor, I disembarked them and had them advance until they ran out of movement points, just south of the Mausoleum. I took care of a few economic, and rebel issues and then ended my turn. When the Seleucids' turn came - BAM - 4 Seleucid full stacks came out of the fog of war, and surrounded me and engaged (the bastards couldn't send those armies to fight Egypt, right?). I forget the exact amount, but it was easily over 10k, not including my own force. When the battle started, only the army that initiated the attack showed up - I was pretty happy about that! So, the usual skirmishing began, and, due to my height advantage, my archers managed to out-range their Cretans! Then, our phalanxes locks spears, and the main battle commenced! It was a pretty tough fight, but my troops held firm. I sent my general up and down the line to keep the morale up, and sent my cavalry to deal with any attempts by the enemy to get at my flanks. After a few more minutes, they were on the brink of breaking. Then, the enemy reinforcements arrived - to the north, south and west. So, I took my units that weren't currently fighting, took them out of phalanx formation, and had them charge the flanks of the enemy phalanx. It worked! Their phalanx broke, and I sent my cavalry down the hill to take care of the dirty work. I then took my hoplites and formed a defensive ring at the top of the hill, and stuffed my archers, general, and artillery inside. I put my peltasts a few meters outside of the ring, easily within running distance, and hid my cavalry in the woods. The huge battle that came was... glorious... just glorious. I'd type out the whole tiff, but I'd be here for another hour, or so. I won the battle with about a 15% loss - The Seleucids? ... 85%. PWNED!!!
Here's a few screenies of the first battle!
