Menu Lag + Strat Mode Turn Lag

1) Between every menu movement, I experience 10 second freeze in-between.
2) In campaign mode, between every turn, there is 5 sec freeze in-between every faction. You can imagine this quickly getting out of hand.

Honestly, the oddest thing about all this is that RTW used to work perfectly about half a year ago. Since then, I have reformatted my harddisk and everything is absolutely up-to-date and clean. No virus nor spyware on comp either. I'm a comp technician, so I've already taken every 'basic' steps imaginable.

have you patched the game to 1.3 cos they had lag issues in 1.3 if you did then you should patch to 1.5 it might also be that your refresh rate is low and you need to increase it so less lag

the game is patched to 1.6 bi and 1.5 orig.
i've messed around with the refresh rate, but doesn't help.
preference.txt safe_refresh is set to true.
