Where did some of the unit voices come from? Like when you click on most gondor/rohan/orc units, they say unique things. Gondorian ballistas, for example, say "City ballista!", which I know isn't a vanilla m2 sound. Are these from another game?![]()

I believe some, if not most, of them are from other LOTR-based games such as BFME and BFME2.
I think they are recorded by the people making this great mod.
Indeed, they should either buy themselves a good pair of microphones. Although this is expensive, so they should instead post threads on the forum asking for people to voice-cast, with the requirement that these people can make it sound awesome and have good microphones and recording programs.
It is not titles that honour men, but men that honour titles.

I know some of them are recordings of players' voices, but some are from other games I'm sure. Some of the voices from Gondor sound too similar to those of the units in BFME.
In my opinion the voices for Rohan sounds like they were recorded by not so good microphones.
Yeah... Especially the "Riders of Rohan!" sound. It kinda breaks the awesome feeling of being a Rohirrim commander
Still, I kinda prefer it over generic voice. I mean, playing HE and hearing Aragorn yell the generic "I'd die for your people as if they were my own!" sounds awesome, but playing Eriador and clicking on Elrond and hearing the standard british voice sucks. ESPECIALLY since it was Elrond the Mean
They'll probably improve it at some point, but untill then, I'm fine with them![]()
I salute those who took the Hungarian Phrasebook simply because of the quote!
Some of the voices are shared with FATW, and were recorded by FATW modders or fans.
Um... what breaks the awesome feeling for me is that their faces look really really wrong.
I always enjoyed hearing "Prince Legolas the Tyrant" saying things like "Nyahahaha! Victory!" Probably because it's out of place...but playing Eriador and clicking on Elrond and hearing the standard british voice sucks. ESPECIALLY since it was Elrond the Mean![]()

This.
I'm not sure who did the Harad voices but, they are really good IMO. The Rohan ones are a bit comical and that's probably a bad thing since I'm sure it wasn't intended and some of the Gondor voices are a bit obnoxious. But, I can't complain it's definitely much better than having the vanilla voices for everyone.
Clearly has his priorities straight.
sounds like they're from a lot of different sources then, wonder why there's no elf voices...![]()
custom voices would be awesome! especially some quenya and sindarin
Emi master race!

The elven voices HAVE been done already. Forgot which sub-mod though.....
When one of the Rohan soilders say "ROHAN BOOOOOWMEN!" im pretty sure sound on the mic gets waaaayy too loud, it starts crackling and stuff lol.
The Record of Lodoss War, The Mother of all Epic High Fantasy stories.
Most were made by fans.
At least Riders of rOhan (capital O intende) is better than Representing Scotland.
if English would be my native language, I would have made custom voices long long ago. Unfortunately all trials to find people who can record some voices always failed, so we still have to use those "bad" recorded Rohan and Gondor voices.
Maybe I should really post another thread to find some voice recorders, but everyone can feel free to record something, of course.
No offense to the original voice actors of Rohan/gondor, I'm very glad that we can use them, but if someone records something, it can't get much worse than them.![]()

I think a lot of people would do it, but a major problem is that they don't know what to say.
So someone should write down a list of those sounds that have to be replaced and maybe open a thread for new sound suggestions as well.
Once you have a good list, you can make a sticky thread out of it and everybody will know exactly what needs to be done. That way you will probably find people much faster.
I have done voice-recording before for a number of german Morrowind/Oblivion and Age of Empires 2 mods and I would do it again, but unless you want units with a weird german accent, it's probably not a good idea.![]()
Post for a native of the UK to re-do Rohan -- I started a campaign with them having just DL'd this the other day and the voices are almost a deal breaker for me. I agree with the previous comments, they are comical and not fitting for the overall quality of the mod.
It sounds like me in my pajamas bellowing amusing impressions into a cheap microphone between jumping up and down on my bed.
When half the game is selecting units and arranging/deploying them on a battlefield it's not a small thing.
