Default Is it hard moving on from this game to the newer TW games ?

Is it hard stopping or slowing down with playing medieval II Total War less and less to put the time into the new TW games ? Such as Empire Total War.

Or do you just stick with this game and just play it on and on.

    One word - Steam.

To expand - Steam is a pain in the ass. And required for the newer TW games.

I gotta say, I was actually getting a little bored with MTW2 so I booted up RTW. Haven't played that in like 2 years and I am having a blast. I'm playing the Rome Total Realism mod and I had forgotten how much fun it is. Plus, after playing MTW2 for so long, my tatics have gotten a lot better. Whole learning curve and everything. Anyway, in respons to the thread, I would say that MTW2 is one of the best games I have ever played, but I felt the same about Rome until this came along. So, it can actually be quite refreshing to either go back or move on for a little bit. Makes you appreciate what you've learned. I'll always come back to MTW2 though. It's just nice to take a break for a while

I have both Empire and ... what's it called, Nappy? Yeah, I think that's it.. but here I am, playing M2:TW.

I tend to spend my single player strat play time bouncing from HOI3, to RTW to M2TW and back again. I do wish MoO3 had been better, then I could have a foursome.

I have found 2 games that I enjoy in RTW and M2TW, I have tried both ETW and Nappy but found the warfare to be too shoot em up for my taste

It's like with all other drugs: hard to change the habit once you get used to your fix. Only better stuff will do the trick. Or going "cold turkey", but that isn't the issue here, is it?

Well the biggest differance is in warfare. I both like them and have played empire a lot, but now i'm doing medievall II, cause i have barely played it before.

I feel distant and like an observer in Empire. In Medieval and Rome I feel like I really am the King.

I agree with that, but I still think Empire and Napoleon are worth a try for a Medieval 2/Rome player. It's different, but it's not bad at all.

Well yeah that's because there is a change of emphasis. In medievall and rome you more represent a family then a nation ( a unified spain didn't existed in 1080), well in empire and napoleon nation-states are the core element

When I am about to become bored with Rome/Med2, I usually find a mod what keeps me interested.
(Rusichi, Broken Crescent, Call of Warhammer, magyar mod to name a few)

I prefer Med 2 and Rome over empire, mostly because Im used to how these two work over the newer changes.

Well I went back to older risk style games (MTW and Shogun). Was not much of a problem except some technical issues. Cause MTW and Shogun have the exact same weapons and tactics as M2:TW so no difference there and after some time you get used to the new gameplay-elements and the controls.

But don´t know how this will be when trying ETW and NTW in the future. Cause excluding controlls and some minor gameplay-changes (as in each TW title) the whole combat is different with gunpowder only. But the era is interesting so I will try it for sure sometimes.

ETW was a letdown steaming pile of manure, so I don't play it.
    I don't have NTW.
