    Default Officers and shields

Is it possible to create officers bearing shields?

yes it is, not that difficult if you know how to mod units

Can a moderator change the title to "officer limitations - creation"?

I 'm trying to create a new officer available only for a specific unit (varangian guards). Is this possible or there have to be an officer per kind of unit (infantry, archers, cavalry etc)? Since now all I get is ctd's.

From my experience, the biggest problem is the EDU, because each different type of officer still count as a unit type, you need to use a EDU spot. your likely problem is that you entered a new EDU entry, but the SS EDUs are already at it's max limit (500) so unless you delete / recycle a EDU spot you'll always get CTDs on launch , no way around that.

No an officer does not count as a unit type. Officers are only defined as entries in the modeldb, not the EDU.

Yeah, it is added only in the modeldb but still I have problems.. I changed the "officer" line at the varangian section in the EDU, added the new unit in the mdb (I used the existed byz officer script as template), added 1 to the total mdb units (at the top), made new folders for the lods and textures, deleted the double groups for the model (legs, body, etc) but no work.. I tested the model and the textures (Ι renamed them as "varangian" and imported to the game), they work fine.

I tried putting an existing unit (swabian swordsmen) as officer but something strange happened. Although I had no ctd, my varangians had a nice swabian swordsman for officer but without textures So I am wondering, since the swordsmen is a full working unit why did this happen? I just try to understand the mechanism behind the officers..

I'm guessing that even though the Swabian swordsmen work as a unit in the game, to be used as an officer they need a texture entry in the EDU specifically for the byzantines.
