Basilisks are the best for targeting on complex enemy. I put a basilisk in front of my army to target the enemy general and shot, at least from a mile away, and enemy general died!
Tested and approved. Maybe......guaranteed!![]()

"Skewer" and "lure".
There is also Numidian Cavalry in Africa.
i am also fan of bretton cavalry. i hold unit off until enemy general is engaged take the javs around back and shoot. always dies in second volley. seem to have better luck with these merc's than any one else. will always stop in rennes on way to crusade just to pick up at least one unit![]()
can't wait for LAST KINGDOM
I try to irritate the general with crossbows (actually I do not only irritate, but make him nearly die) and when he get's annoyed, he charges straight into my lines, only to find a Shield Wall which pokes out spears
When he clashes with the Shield Wall, the infantry waiting behind the Shield Wall also charge at him on the same moment. This way he dies a good death.![]()

I NEVER kill enemy generals. I always capture and ransom; Thats how it worked in Middle Ages =D
I once got a huge ransom for a king.

Theres no trick... you just have to wait until enemy general routs... them surround him with Calvary. I try to NOT kill general. Because, a sold man is better than a dead man =DIs there a trick for that as i thought you can only capture them when they are routing which actually not in our hands.![]()
In my ongoing French campaign, i saw Emperor Henry ( german king ) happly walking in his kingdom... i entered HRE with a full stack just to capture him. LOL
But i didn't succeed. He vanished... prob hiding in a castle or a city.
Haha it was the French king , i was playin with England in my first campaign. Captured him in an epic battle that was my first heroic victory. :pWow!
A King!!

In the Middle Ages a king's ransom was more than 12 000 florins. When I have 1 000 000 florins, I really don't care about an extra 10 000. In the Middle Ages, a king's bodyguard didn't magically regenerate, causing some unnecessary casualties in the next battle. A dead man won't come back to fight you again next turn.
bbq - same as my bottlenecked gate trick, but use Siphonatores instead of ballista![]()
Don't forget to rep me if you like something I did/ or not lol
See that green thingy under the Carroburg banner? click it!
Pwning as the Pope on VH/VH Savage AI SS 6.4!
Yes but a dead man doesn't gives money either.A dead man won't come back to fight you again next turn.
Thats why slavery was cool when conquering empires.
A great experience about failures... I had attacked a city that only had an enemy general unit. I had a 2 generals and 2 spearmen units. The enemy general was the faction leader and he managed to not only kill 110 out of 154 spearmen, but he killed both of my generals in the process. W.T.F. This enemy general was the only man alive and he single handedly killed 50+ spears and 15+ knights. He was literally just nonstop slashing and stabbing at enemies. All I heard over the clangs of battle were my men shouting nonstop in death wails as the enemy general kept  his sword into my men's bodies (I say this because the enemy general's sword arm literally kept swinging back and forth, every blow landing a kill). That general was a HOSS.
I replayed the battle several times until I could not lose a general.
Wow, never heard something like that!
Also, that king may had some good and powerful traits, and difficulty level also determines it. SS has a good AI and difficulty level, so this IS possible.

In Aragonese Campagne I had a battle against two Moorish armies.
At the end of the battle where the enemy began to rout, my heir got a headshot from a balista![]()
I just give a spear unit to the enemy general. I make a shieldwall with spearmen and irritate him so much that he charges on me. When he comes near, my spearmen reveal themselves and gave a massive blow. I don't know why, but enemy was French King, and he killed off many of my elite troops. Then also he didn't die, he fled the field and returned to Paris.
