I guess I can understand how there can be appeal to angry che poetry. It's supposed to be like music, with all the rhythm less the instruments but I guess with lyrics you are actually supposed to listen to and somehow take a message from. I'm watching Brave new voices on HBO while I'm waiting for south park and I can't stop from laughing at this sillyness and not taking it remotely serious.

Here's an example of what i'm talking about:

I don't understand why ugly girls are complaining about being used as a penis sheath. Who the would want a militant ugly hippie ? They should be happy because they've acheived their objective.

Comments aside on that particular vid, the topics on the actual show are the same run of the mill corporations are evil, global warming bad, i'm addicted to abortions blah blah blah. And as I laugh or roll my eyes, for some reason I want to look at this with an open mind. I've gotten on the "try new things" kick recently. It started with Asparagus, then moved to mich ultra, iced Latte's, the coffee house on sirius radio and now hippie poetry. I have not turned the channel, but my god is this an acquired taste? Am I the only one who thinks these topics are silly especially getting this worked up over them? Penn from Penn and Teller is a judge and I think that guy is awesome, so I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt.
Sure I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is Im not. I honestly feel that America is the best country and all other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

I actually enjoyed that, at least enough to listen through it twice. Granted, I usually only caught the last half of her sentences but her words seemed quite genuine and heartfelt.

Edit: Oh yeah, and lol @ the guy in the audience at 1:52. Fan I guess?

What are you talking about, she sounds really annoying but she's not bad looking. I actually would if her mouth was taped up. Though that limits your options.

On the other hand, maybe that option's better left unexploited, judging by the sentiments she expresses in that video...

I don't think this one specifically is bad looking, though a common theme seems to have ugly hairy earthy dykes preaching the tired out nonsense. Loud screeching shrews.

My GF was a judge for this event and made me sit through the program, most of it I found rather stereotypical regarding the topics they talked about. It was sort of grating to hear them try to do anti-war poetry, none of which hit the mark and I am very anti-Iraq. But, I did like the group poetry and how they used the rhythm of language to not only send a message but make it interesting to listen to.

In the finals, the one team that should have won lost because their poet was not only so good, but spoke of a message that was personal and actually important to the event. They asked the judges to give them a 7 because they learned that the rules stated that the judges can not give scores less than an 8 because it might affect the kids egos. So, all the judges, except Penn Gillet (I think) gave them a 7, the other score was a 10.

But, yeah, some of the voices and the rhyme schemes were just grating.

Your just not hip to the hop enough JP. This is very exclusive to Florida beach boys and their misbehaving penises. Try this on tea and smoking a pipe, that will get you in the che poetry mood....

Watching British comedy and sending 100$ to the Obama campaign first helps too...

You just have the wrong mindset JP, open up to leftism.

    She's not that bad

Its one of those ridiculous things that people do to make them sound 'cultural' and 'cosmopolitan', basically rap without the music. Tbh this is the first and last time I will say this, but other than the subject of the attractiveness of the girl, I agree with you.
A new mobile phone tower went up in a town in the USA, and the local newspaper asked a number of people what they thought of it. Some said they noticed their cellphone reception was better. Some said they noticed the tower was affecting their health.

A local administrator was asked to comment. He nodded sagely, and said simply: "Wow. And think about how much more pronounced these effects will be once the tower is actually operational."
