I did it and I still don't know how to lauch it. Can you simly update or send me ( sruz25@ic.cz ) your shortcuts for each of kingdoms mod? I have all files except of shortcuts ( because they were in windows folder, which I have deleted before win reinstal ), in which wasn't only path to kingdoms.exe, but also some attributes I have to use when lauching kingdoms.exe. I don't remember these attributes, so if nobody send me them, I have to install 12 GB of files because of 4 shortcuts with only few kb.

Lol what is so tough about it? You Put the files in the mod folder and double click the .bat file and that's it.

In your main Medieval 2 directory do you have a file called Kingdoms. Which is an application if so just right click on that and click send to desktop, then you have a shortcut, if not you might want to do a reinstall.
"We shall defend our island whatever the cost may be; we shall fight on beaches, landing grounds, in fields, in streets and on the hills. We shall never surrender and even if, which I do not for the moment believe, this island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, will carry on the struggle until in God's good time the New World with all its power and might, sets forth to the liberation and rescue of the Old."
    - Prime Minister Winston Churchill (after the fall of France)

No. The Kingdoms .exe is not a stand-alone executable. Opening it will only result in a crash. You need to use the batch files to launch the Campaigns - those files reference the Kingdoms .exe as well as the mod info.

@sruz25 - after you reinstalled Windows are the shortcuts for the Kingdoms campaigns missing? Have you tried going through the Start menu?

Guys i gave him the bat files all he needs to do is put them in each relevant expansion packs and then add a shortcut for the bat file at his desktop and launch it.

I don't know why he is not getting it.

You and irish (in his response right after yours) are right but I'm wondering if there is something else at work here. What if he didn't actually re-install Windows but in actuality upgraded from Vista to Win7 using the MS upgrade path? What effect does that have on Desktop shortcuts and the Start menu options? I ask because he never mentioned re-installing M2 but indicated it worked fine after the OS re-install but is having trouble running Kingdoms. I can't see how re-installing the OS wouldn't kill his M2 install unless this is the case.

I really think there is something he's neglecting to tell us here because he doesn't know to.

Besides that, not everyone knows what a batch file is and how to apply them. He may not know what questions to ask and what to do with the files you provided....

The best OS upgrade I ever heard, and it was still DOS days was reformat ant start fresh. It has proven true in Windows, too. If, for some reason running out of ram and/or free harddisc space, the installer makes an arbitrary decision of what to and not to keep. It has happened in earlier versions of Windows.

If he is trying install a backup after reinstalling Windows, there would be no registry keys and need to reinstall the game, anyway.

Sory, I didn't get that .bat and .cfg aren't only for smart AI. It works. Thanks for your patience.

PS: I did ( win xp ) disk format ( without backup ) and then install win xp, so there aren't any shortcuts and registry keys, but it works - the game needs only files in Medieval II Total War folder and installed DirectX 9c. It doesn't matter that windows don't know about it.

You install Kingdoms and the campaigns, the shortcuts are in the icons pointing to the .bat files in their respective folders. Unless you go out of your way to play with it like only installing one and expect the rest or move it after installing or something bad, it will work.

PoleCat is right about the kingdoms.exe not being standalone.

Did you update XP to XP SP3?

Yeah, Windows does need to know where it is unless there is something not kosher going on.
