    Default "Great Generals!"

Have you ever had a really good commander? I'm sure everyone has, but if you'd like to share your great commanders, do it here .

A member of the Julii Family. Decius the Mighty. Gained 8 Stars, Conquorer and a bunch of other traits, unfortunately the save got corrupted some how and always crashed when I ended my turn. Unfortunately . But he conquored almost all of Gaul...Hence my name Decius I miss him

Don't worry Decius I'm sure he went to a better place where he no doubt has my own lost 8 star general; Lucius the Lewd to keep him ...company.

Meet my best general : http://www.imagedump.com/index.cgi?pick=get&tp=361461

He was born with no command stars, and was sent to fight in Italy with a superior general. Needless to say he died and Khilletzbal took over. He survived until he was about 70, at which point I sailed him home to retire in Carthage, only to die on the way.

I dont normally play campagins but when i modified the possible names for Romans i had the Julii general Artorius the Mighty, he was cool - wanted to pack him off to Britain but he was too good for that, so he spentmost of the time slapping the pontics around (who owned most of the east of the map by then )

Ambon. An Iberian Faction Heir. He was born with 4 stars and a 'millatery genius' trait. Within 10 years, he had 10. He conquered all of Iberia, the towns which rebeled and the gallic town, and also the Carthaginian town. He fought Carthage's comeback, ragining the south-east town. Also he fought the gallic comeback in the north-east. A great general indeed!!

I bribed a Macedonian (forget the name) general once in my RTR campaign. When I bribed him he already had three stars. I set him up as the governor of Larissa, while the majority of my forces where handing the Gauls their own asses. Wave after wave of Macedonian attacks came. 90% of the time, he had half the troops the attackers had. By his death, he had two gold chevrons and 10 stars.

I'm playing with Parthia and I have a 40-years-old 9 star general....there is room for further improvement.

    I've had a 10 star Julii general by age 21 =P

He started with 5, Military genius and something else, and gained 3 more from a priest of jupiter, that plebisicte or whatever thing, and then a mercenary captain. By the age of 21, he had fought 6 battles against Gaul and had a close, average, 3 clear, and a heroic victory. Conquered all of Gaul, Germany, and marched on Scythia before being killed during unrest in a city... Irony of ironies.

Sounds like Germanicus. Had enough 10 star generals, but all began as 3, 4 or 5 star generals and rose to 10 in their fifties. My best one was Phraotes the Great: he had 10 command, 7 management and 10 influence in his late forties. When I began my campaign he was 30 years old and Parthia was one of the smallest states on the map: when Phraotes died at the age of 84 his empire stretched from the Indus to Syria. His oldest son succeeded him, and had 7 command, 10 influence and 10 management when he died at the age of 62.

I had a 20 star and like 15 influence General Eugenius the Great if you added all the stars and stuff together fighting for the Greeks.
He was amazing, i took over all of Greece, Macedonia, Thrace, the Anatola, the Selucids, and the Egyptians with him and his army of like 6 Hoplites, 4 Peltats, 3 Slingers, and 4 Cretan Archers. He had like +18 morale for all men the battle field in extra traits and retiune, a surgeon, and like +10 hit points.

    Amazing.

I have had one of those nice looking 10 star, 10 scroll, 10 wreath generals, but his other stats were incredible as well, his effect on taxes and farming and build times and cost, it was beautiful.

Build academies and the like in your cities with governors and you will quickly see them atract retinue members with lots of good traits. Plus you might gain good traits just from governing!

The best example of this is that 6 management guy in BI that you start with on Corduba. Bring him to Rome and immediately he gains management-based traits and retinue.

my best general was flavius julius' son.
flavius was killed at the beginning of the campaign against gaul. his son was quite outraged. so he embarked on a big long march.
him and his 2000 legionaries (mostly hastati, archers and equites) totally trashed most of gaul. by the end of, and several thousand re-enforcements, the son was an uber general. i cant remember the exact stats, but i think he had 10 stars and 1 or 2 gold chevrons.
and there was one more gallic province left.
so the army marched on. the battle was fierce, with both sides losing huge, huge numbers of men.
we reached the plaza, just the general's unit and two units of triarii (from the reinforcements). that was one looooooooong battle at the plaza. eventually, the son was felled. yes he died, at the plaza of the last settlement of gaul.
the tribute was massive...several thousand soldiers marched all the way into gaul...and crossed the borders to iberia, to make a new 10 star general.
