    Default Noob to SV

Which faction would it be good to start with in SV for a noob to the mod?

I've started with the Saxons in the Dark Age campaign.

Decent starting position and the Huscarls are lethal.

I think Sicily in EE is a good faction to start with. You won't get into trouble, unless you go looking for it. This will give you time to build up your economy, before expanding. Starting as an island also doesn't hurt....

The Rus are probably pretty safe as well, with no one at your back....

    Thanks all!
I think I'll start with Sicily, I like having a mediterranean empire.

On my first try I took The Catalans, but every one started declaring war on me and i got crushed

Yes, I can assure you that starting with Sicily is fun and fairly easy, as I did it myself.

I too have tried Catalan/Barcelona and been crushed by the French and Castille y Leon, it's very sad... However, I did manage to play another game in which I not only survived, but rid the Iberian pennisula of the Moors and only then got backstabbed by Castille, who by then I could easily defeat.

The small new factions like Barcelona, Anjou, Armenia, Genoa, Serbia and Bulgaria are probably not good factions to learn hou to play SV with. You really need to learn how to grow the economy before moving to these factions.

    Some things to remember:

    1) Field cost script - Armies with Generals left in the field will cost you money at the end of the turn.

    2) Take advantage of free upkeep, in castle, towns, and stone forts.

    3) Disband any unnecessary units (these are really there for the AI to use). Keep in mind # 2 when you do this. High upkeep elite cavalry could be kept in stone forts for free. The joys of fuedalism

    4) Build economic infrastructure...farming, ports, trade

    5) Get trade rights with other factions.

Oh, I don't know. It's hard going, but my first campaign was the Khazars (I blitzed at first, and then expanded, getting a hold on things. I stopped at around 12 territories. My second was as the Comtat de Barcelona - probably my favourite campaign I've ever played on Med2, despite the horrible lag I get while playing SV.

I never made it past 7 or 8 territories as the Comtat, but I never liked big empires anyway. I think I posted said empire in the Post Your Empire thread. I may continue it, some day. Finally launch an expedition for Sicily/Corsica/Sardinia. Viva Catalunya!

When I play la Corona d'Aragó or el Comtat de Barcelona I try to go for the historically accurate Mediterranean Empire. But Castella and the Italian City-states get in the way; especially Castella because the AI loves back stabbing.
