Windows 7 Issue - Game Will Not Start

OK - this happens from time to time but now it just will not start - for EITHER version of the EXE (wink, wink). I click on the EXE icon and the blue circle appears for a time and then nothing. I go into Task Manager and find the RTW.EXE running and a rundlle.exe - but nothing is happening.

Additional info:
Win 7 64bit Home edition
UAC disabled
Running as administrator
XP SP3 compatibilty
NO Firefox or virus software running

Anyone have a cure?

BTW, did a search of the tech posts and could not find an issue similar to mine.

Throw out the (wink,wink), and you may have better luck running the original in XP SP2 Compatibility. As old as this game is, reboot maybe necessary.

I tried that approach. Still did not work.

And then I hit the EXE icon again - and the game started! I ALT-Tabbed and noticed in Task Manager that I had two RTW.EXEs going - the rundll32 - and something called something like; "-cleanup*32 dll"

I was able to kill the first instance of the RTW.EXE and the rundll32 - and go back into the game and it ran fine. Played for 2 hours - no issues.

So...a bit of a kludge - but working.

Do you know how to use msconfig and see if they are loaded at startup? If so, uncheck them and then try it.

Yes, I know "msconfig" very well. I will check but I doubt it as - when I game - I pull the plug on the internet and then hit Task Manager to shut down my anti-virus and I never noticed these being active.

Nope. Nothing there.

Might as well close this one as the issue is now more of a slight annoyance than a show stopper.

The installer may have done you a disfavor when installing.

Youmay try installing in a folder like C:\Games if you have not done so.

I have it in my C:\ directory and not my Programs (86) directory. And it has worked fine in the past.

No reason why not now short of a bad install. Mine works without a hitch and I have Win 7 Pro 64bit.
