    Default Cavalry losses in rtr

i play RTR and i win a lot of big battles, but it always seems that my cavalry take tremendous losses, i mean sometimes ill give them orders to disengage, and they wont, and sometimes, i send them to flank an enemy, and they'll take more losses than the enemy, any1 have any advice

Keep them away from spearmen? (spears kill)

Keep them away from dispersed light infantry (velites etc)? (it stops the cav and kills them)

    - only ever attack the flanks and rear of enemy formations
    - always keep an eye on routing units your cavalry is chasing, they have a nasty habit of regrouping just as your cavalry arrive
    - don't forget your cavalry need to be charging to get their full bonuses, you need to double right click on the target when you are a little bit away, remember, the cavalry need time/space to get up to full speed.

But yeah, you basically have to remember these are lightly armoured guys, not medieval knights. Your infantry should always do the bulk of the work and your cavalry chases routing units and charges enemy from flanks and rear.

see i try to do that, but the enemy infantry (not spearmen, i wouldnt be that dumb) seem intent on killing my cav, when i disengage them from flanking to go around my army, the enemy infantry will break off combat and follow them!

oh, yeah, the AI will try to cover your flanking move.

The way round that is to pin the enemy infantry with yours before you flank

Maximime is 9. I use HUGE or w/e gives you like 161 for Hasati and 240 for hoplites. It makes the A.i Act a LITTLE worse but it's so much cooler. Also it hurts pop but what doesn't? With the right formations they will be fine and the a.i always abuses pop-now more so but nontheless

i tried huge, and my comp lagged a lot (its a pice of crap), but i tried normal, and the armies are too small, so ive been thinking about going to large which is 80? in a unit?

I normally let my infantry engage enemy troops for a bit and flank with them etc. I use the cavelry for the last strike and rout the enemy troops.
