Any good songs you're working on right now?
Post a link to it, if you can. Tell us which instrument you play, how long you've been playing it, and how and why you think learning this song will improve your skills.
Since I started the thread, I think it'd only be fair for me to follow my own directions!
I've been playing the guitar for about 5 years, now. I'm currently making some modifications to my Jackson RR3 (new pickups [EMG '81 Bridge, '85 Neck], upgrading the tremolo system to a Floyd Rose and adjusting the action), so I've been using my friend's old Jackson entry-level King V. It's definitely not as good as my RR3, but it's something, and it's been making me concentrate a lot harder on my accuracy and it's been giving my fingers a better workout due to the lower quality neck. So, I should be playing my RR3 even better once it's finished.
I'm currently working on "Welcome Home" by King Diamond. I've really been getting into King Diamond over the past few months. He's an excellent composer, and has always had accomplished musicians behind him - including his right hand man, lead guitarist Andy LaRocque, once of the most accomplished guitarists in the entire heavy metal genre. He's also one of the best storytellers I've heard in a while!
What I'm hoping to get out of learning this song is improved chops, a better grasp on key, tempo and time signature changes, due to the plethora of them used in this song. I've also been focusing a bit more on baroque-influenced lead playing, and breaking out of the blues and pentatonic scales.
